3rd Trimester

How long did you have to fast for the 1st GD test?

I have my appointment today for the first GD test at 2:45... I wrote on my calendar that the nurse told me to fast for one hour prior to the test but I could drink water.

All my friends at school who are pregnant think that time frame sounds crazy and that I should fast longer. I was going to eat a yogurt right before I have to fast to hold me over but I guess the sugar could skew the results???

I eat lunch at 10:45 so by 2:45 I will faint if I don't have something in between!

WDYT?

  • I didn't fast before the test. They draw a baseline vial right before or after you take the drink so it shouldn't matter.

  • I didn't have to fast at all. I ate at 8am and 10am, started the glucose test at 10:45am and had my blood drawn at 11:45am.

  • I didn't fast at all. I was told to just eat a light meal before and one that doesn't have sugar in it. I ate scrambled eggs.

  • My OB told me not to fast at all but to watch out for sugary foods.  If you do fast, make sure you have some food and water afterwards to avoid the sugar crash.  Good luck!  :)

  • 8 hours.

    ?

But everyone does it differently; just do what your nurse told you to do.?

  • I didn't fast prior to the 1 hour test - just watched my carb intake to make sure that I wasn't loading up.
  • i just didn't eat that morning, but i got up, took a shower and went right there. so it wasn't a big deal.

I fasted for 12 hrs.  But I was pretty serious about passing this time so fasted and ate little to no sugar the day before.  I ate breakfast before the last time (just 1-2 hrs prior) and failed with DD and I did NOT want to repeat the fun of the 3hr one.

I didn't have to fast.  I was just told not to go overboard on the sugar.  My appointment was in the morning so I avoided juice, sugar cereal, syrup, etc.

  • I only fasted for the 3 hour test
  • Mine said no sugar or carbs before the test all day but just no eating at all 1 hour prior.
  • I didn't fast, and was only told not to eat a big, sugary breakfast.

I had some eggs and toast, and passed with flying colors. I'd skip the yogurt, as they can have a lot of sugar.

  • I didn't have to fast either.  Mine was at 3:00 yesterday and I had lunch around 12:30 and just water after that - but that is how I eat every day.  If she told you tof ast for one hour then I would listen to her and not your friends at school.
  • Didn't have to fast, just told not to eat anything during the hour between drinking the sugar drink and the blood draw. Ate a bowl of cereal and some string cheese about two hour prior to drinking the sugar stuff and passed with flying colors.
  • I had to fast from the night before...at least 12 hours!!! That sounds really weird to only fast for 1 hour...I would maybe call the doctor and make sure that's correct before going in and wasting your time, if you should have been fasting longer.

  • I didn't fast. My test was at 8:30 in the morning. I ate a normal breakfast around 6:30. My results were fine.

    This was also my experience.

  • They specifically told me not to fast and to eat as usual.

Ditto - this is what my dr told me to do.

  • I didn't have to fast, but ate lunch about 1.5 hours before the test. There are plenty of people who fast and fail miserably, and plenty of people who snack right before and pass just fine. If your nurse said an hour, fast for an hour. Have a snack around 1:30, just make sure it's not sugary or laden with carbs.?

  • I didn't have to fast, but I did because my appointment was at 7:30 am and I wasn't really hungry. If the nurse said an hour you are probably fine.

  • I didn't have to fast. I drank the glucola and then couldn't eat or drink anything other than water until the test which was an hour later. So, your test will be like mine.

  • I didn't have to fast for mine. My doc just told me to watch my carb intake the day prior.  I get the results next Tues.
