Do you wash DC's hands before meals?

How about when you come home from a public place?  I'm pretty good about doing that, but don't really think of it before meals unless DS's hands are clearly dirty for some reason.  My parents never really made us wash up before meals, so I've never been in the habit myself.  I'm better at it when I'm sick or others are sick around me or if I know I'll be eating with my hands.

  • Yes.  We have a dog, and she likes to pet her.  I don't want her to get dog hair in her mouth.  LOL!

  • I wipe/wash his hands only if he's been playing outside in the dirt or if he grabs himself during diaper changes. He gets wiped down after meals, too. Dirt is good for babies!

Yes - I don't think they do this enough at daycare.  I try to wash them at least after they play, and at least before mealtime.

I'm the exact same way as you. I swear everytime I have them in the highchairs I suddenly remember. In that case I wipe them. But otherwise we all enjoy washing up in the sink more so. It's just another fun activity for them. I definitely don't remember enough though.

If they are obviously dirty of course they get washed or if we came in from outside, etc.

  • Yes. I was never really a germ-a-phobe until we had a preemie. Now we ALL wash our hands all the time.

  • I try to, and always if he's been outside. Sometimes it's just a quick wipe if I know they aren't too bad.
  • No not always...but you got me thinking maybe I should !

  • Yes, I try to.  Sometimes, I forget though.  :)
  • Yes, I try to remember before each meal--her hands get so grubby.  I frequently forget when we come home from being out, but I'm trying to get better with that.
  • No and I've never thought about doing it until this post.  Not sure how often I would remember...the two of them keep us busy!  I'm not too much of a germaphobe though, so I don't think some dirt and germs hurt them.
  • Well, due to his horrible gag reflex, he's not on table foods and not self feeding.  So no, we don't wash his hands before meals because we're feeding him.  I do wash my hands before making his bottle/food.

I don't know that once he does start self feeding that we will wash his hands before every meal.  He's cared for in our home, so he's not exposed to many other germs aside from what's in the house.  When he's outside playing in the yard or if we take him to the park, I do wash his hands when we get home.

  • Yes. Absolutely. My husband is an urse and super big on handwashing.
  • yeah...not really.  :)  i suck on the hand washing for both her and myself.  that being said, the only time any of us get sick is sinus infections.  go figure.  and yes, i know im gross. hah.
