How about when you come home from a public place? I'm pretty good about doing that, but don't really think of it before meals unless DS's hands are clearly dirty for some reason. My parents never really made us wash up before meals, so I've never been in the habit myself. I'm better at it when I'm sick or others are sick around me or if I know I'll be eating with my hands.
Re: Do you wash DC's hands before meals?
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
Yes - I don't think they do this enough at daycare. I try to wash them at least after they play, and at least before mealtime.
I'm the exact same way as you. I swear everytime I have them in the highchairs I suddenly remember. In that case I wipe them. But otherwise we all enjoy washing up in the sink more so. It's just another fun activity for them. I definitely don't remember enough though.
If they are obviously dirty of course they get washed or if we came in from outside, etc.
Well, due to his horrible gag reflex, he's not on table foods and not self feeding. So no, we don't wash his hands before meals because we're feeding him. I do wash my hands before making his bottle/food.
I don't know that once he does start self feeding that we will wash his hands before every meal. He's cared for in our home, so he's not exposed to many other germs aside from what's in the house. When he's outside playing in the yard or if we take him to the park, I do wash his hands when we get home.
