Infertility

more IUIs or IVF?

We have done 4 IUIs. The third was a cp. Our MFI is a low perentage with morphology (shape). The RE recommended two or three IUIs with injectables and then moving onto IVF. She said we really should jump right to IVF due to the shape of my uterus (bicornate) because multiples would not be a good thing. Since she thought we didn't sound ready we could do the injectables. So I'm tempted just to do one IUI to try out the medicaion and then do IVF next since now I feel very concerned about multiples. My DH thinks since the one IUI ended with the cp why wouldn't we just keep trying those. I think that is a good point but trying to listen to the REs advice. It's going on two years and I think I'm just ready to try something with a higher chance of success. What would you do?

Re: more IUIs or IVF?

  • Depending on insurance coverage, I would do 1 injectible IUI...then you'll know how you respond to the meds.  8 IUIs was too many for me, even though they were years apart. Although you had a c/p so I think trying 1 more would be a good idea.  If you overrespond, they can always convert you to IVF too easily.

  • I did 5 IUIs with injections, with a CP my 3rd cycle.  I had the option after the 3rd to do IVF, but I wasn't ready, and felt hopeful with the CP.  Looking back, I could have done without the 5th IUI.  I was getting bitter at that point.  Now we're waiting for IVF this summer.
