I think Andrew had a really good day. I am not sure (I don't have the
numbers) but I feel like he's making progress. He's cuing harder,
crying a LOT more when he's hungry (which sucks because he gets pretty
upset, but is good because he's really telling us when he needs to
eat...), and doing well when he says he's hungry.
Today he kind of demanded a random schedule (sometimes going 2.5
hrs, sometimes 4) but ate well at each feed! He's taking about 55-60
mL at each feed (not as much volume), but since sometimes he's eating
after only 2.5 hours, that's probably OK.
Tonight was confusing because he'd eaten at 6:30, but was screaming
when we walked in at 8. I thought maybe he wanted to be held, but
no...he kept screaming. He wasn't really rooting or showing hunger
signs, but we figured why not try breastfeeding. So we did and he was
SO happy! Then we tried to supplement with a bottle and he freaked
out. We weren't sure why. So we switched bottle nipples (his nurse
thought maybe the one we were using was too small), that didn't help
either. SO then we tried to breastfeed on the other side, and he was
happy again. So he's either experiencing nipple confusion, or, he's
developing a preference for breastfeeding. He breastfed for 35 minutes! I pumped after he was done and got very little!
Also, he gained 70 grams tonight. That's really good.
We try not to focus on day-to-day gains or losses, but considering he's been losing most days, this is great news especially since he's not gained 2 days in a row. (Granted, he hasn't had a BM yet, but still.) Hopefully we'll get the biopsy results soon!
Re: We had a good day!
awesome news .... that's cool that he only wanted to be BF!
