Baby Showers

Should I wait?

I am kind of in a dilemma about when I should have my baby shower (my Aunt is throwing it for me but wants me to decide the best date, which I appreciate).

I am due Aug 8th.  My twin sister is coming into town from the East coast early July, so the best date for a shower would be July 11th.  Do you think that a month is cutting it too close?  I would really like my sis to be here for the shower (she is my twin afterall) but I get nervous thinking I won't be prepared for the baby!  I feel like I am over-thinking this.... I should wait for her, right?

Re: Should I wait?

  • I think that should be okay.  I have a shower on June 6th, and I am due July 9th.  It sounds like it would be really special for your sister to be there.  You'll still have some time to get things ready.  Enlist DH in helping with laundry and picking up any items you need but don't get at the shower.

  • A month is fine. It's pretty much a standard time to have your shower. I would definitely wait for your sister! It will be so special to have her there.

  • I understand how you feel. I am a twin also and I would want my twin to be there. I think it would be cutting it close though. Ask her how she feels about it. I would think that is still enough time but I would ask her to come earlier if possible so you don't have to rush.
  • Yes, I think that sounds just fine, especially since you're trying to accommodate your sister. GL, and have fun!

  • Thanks everyone for your thoughts!  I feel a lot better now  Big Smile
  • I've had showers for 2 of my kids (they were 17 years apart) and both were 2 weeks before my due date.  I'm sure you will be fine.  Your twin would probably really appreciate being there.
  • I would wait for your sister it will be a great moment to share with her!
  • I think you should be fine.  Many showers aren't done until the last month, anyway.  I agree that it's not absolutely ideal, but you'll only be 36 weeks, so chances are that you'll still have several weeks to get things ready for baby.  I think that it is very thoughtful of you to make sure your sister is included!

I have a friend who is also pregnant, and due August 6.  She is having two showers (one for family, one for friends), one that is pretty early (May 16 - I'm throwing that one - she'll only be 28 weeks!), and one that is pretty late (July 26 - she'll be 38 weeks).  She did this to accommodate schedules of two aunts and a very close friend, all of whom she really wants to be there.

  • I would totally wait for my sis!
  • Its all up to you.  I wouldn't want it that close but if I wanted my sis to be there then that is when I would do it.
  • More important to have your sister there!

  • My first shower is at 28 weeks and then my second is literally 20 days before my EDD. It's what MIL insisted on. It wasn't exactly what I wanted but she said that was what is proper with the guests that are attending coming from where they are.
