do you think it's weird for moms or people over a certain age to get tattoos?
for the record, i have a lot of tattoos and plan on getting more after my babies are born...including a sleeve on one or both arms. it's ok if you don't like it, i know tattoos aren't for everyone and won't be offended by honest responses!
Re: since we're talking about piercings
I dont think its weird. I have 8 and plan on more..they can all be covered if needed. I have been trying to get my mom to get one forever! I think the only weird thing would be placement after a certain age..I mean I have one on my hip that probably wont look great after 3 kids. Ah well.
Nope. I have three and I plan on getting more, I have tons of ideas. If I thought I could get away with it at work I would get a half sleeve. Maybe if I'm ever fortunate enough to become a SAHM, I'll be able to do that. DH is moderately tattooed, and I'm hoping for him to keep working on a sleeve. The way I see it, most people my age nowadays are tattooed so we will all be old and wrinkled and tattooed together so the whippersnappers can point and laugh at us all.
As a PP said, I also HATE it when people just walk in and pick stuff off the wall. The only one I picked out of a book was a Mayan symbol for transition that we got on our honeymoon in Mexico, and that was only because we both wanted something that stood for a journey or change and that's what the artist suggested. People who flip through the big posters on the wall trying to pick out the perfect butterfly or rose kill me.
speaking as someone that is pretty covered (2 full sleeve tattoos, huge piece on my shin, 2 pretty big pieces on my calves) i don't have a problem with it at all. but i am a complete snob when it comes to tattoos. i know i shouldn't be like that, i have pretty low self esteem but when it comes to my tattoos, i know they're amazing and i know they're done really well. i do look down on people with sh!tty tattoos and tattoos that mean absolutely nothing to them. i'm working on. i swear! haha i think it's fine for older women and men to get tattoos as long as it's not like mickey mouse or tigger like i see so often. and piercings, well i've outgrown them. i've had them since i was a teenager and currently have none anymore. i'm sure i could get some of them back in but i just feel like i'm too old for them. (i'm only 25 go figure) i'm all for individual expression.. just do your research and don't get something cause it's trendy :-D
p.s. i do worry that my child will get picked on or get embarassed cause i'm fully covered but i'm hoping by the time he hits that age, the other parents will be my age and almost everyone my age has a tattoo or 2. so it might be more socially acceptable
I have several. I don't think its weird at all. My mom and I got memorial tattoos together a few years ago. It was her first one and she was 45. Now she wants more!
Max born July 25
Big sisters Alex and Layla
I have a tattoo and my DH has several, and I used to be quite pierced up.
I think tattoos are fine as long as you've thought about them (placement and design). I have a friend who is a vet who is getting a half sleeve--she's aware that she might have to cover it while she's a junior partner at a vet hospital, but hopes that eventually she'll build up enough clientele that like her that she'll be able to show it off.
What I do think is wierd are older people who continue to do the perfectly done up retro clothes/dyed hair/pierced/tattooed look. I know some people have jobs where they can get away with it, but it has always seemed so professionally limiting to me. It also seems like a lot of work to spend on a specific type of style, and it seems that those people are are defining themselves too much by what they look like. Then again, I'm a bit jealous--I sometimes miss my youthful days of crazy colored hair and lip rings!
