*warning - child injuries mentioned*
Today, near where I live, two children were severely injured in a car accident.
It was a minor fender-bender, but the children, age 3 months and 3 years, were not in car seats. The 3 month old was no restrained at all (in his mother's lap) and I don't think that the 3-year-old had a seatbelt on.
3-year-old is doing better, infant is critical.
Seriously, I don't care how judgemental I sound. You're an idiot if you don't put a child in a proper car seat.
Re: So frustrating (judgemental)...sad
OMG that is so sad. That makes me angry that the mom was so careless.
Many prayers to the children... I hope things look up for them!
I saw a horrible accident a couple of weeks ago... first hand we pulled up about 2 minutes after the car had flipped at least 5 times. Everyone in the car passed away except the infant baby in the car that was in a car seat. It was seriously a miracle. The baby had ONE scratch on him and that was IT! Amazing.
The horrible part about the whole thing is... the accident was a hit and run out of ROAD RAGE. Now this baby is with out a father because someone was a huge jerk.
In regards to my post...why can't people get it through their thick SKULLS that you can't restrain a child during an accident with your bare hands?

That's not judgment, that's just smart. If there is something that is PROVEN to SAVE a childs life, something that is a LAW to use, and you don't use it, you're a HORRIBLE parent. HORRIBLE. I don't care your reasoning. Unless you're rushing your already injured child to the hospital, and then they should probably be in an abmulance.
I feel the same way about helmets. Not making your child wear a helmet when on bicycles, skateboards, skates, etc or when playing dangerous sports makes you a bad parent. It's stupid and lazy and can cost your child their life.
I feel like less of a jerk now.
The parents are being fined, but I don't believe that seatbelt violations in my area are criminal offences.

This. I can't believe its not a law there. I hope the children make it through. I can't believe all that happened to the parents is a fine. Child Endangerment?
I saw this on the news. I swore at the TV when I heard they weren't buckled in.
So sad.
The driver of the van will get a huge fine, hoping. And demerit points. But that's not nearly enough.
I think if just the driver alone gets caught with no belt here it's 2 points and 150 dollar fine.
Its ridiculous how some parents don't care, when I was growing up one of the girls on my street flipped her bike and suffered a severe brain injury from hitting the pavement with out a helmet.
You have to wonder about all of the other irresponsible parenting that they've been doing as well. With as much information as we have now about safety, I can't imagine someone making the decision not to secure their children in a car.
I flipped my car 4 times end over end, 13 days after I turned 16. I walked away without a scratch. I know how a seat belt can save a life.
To clarify for everyone in this thread:
There is a carseat law in effect here. And a booster seat law. Any child under 8 is supposed to be in a booster. The parents in this story were idiot a-holes who weren't following the law.
My sister was in a sort of similiar accident but she was in the rear passenger seat and not wearing a seat belt, she was about 13 yrs old and with friends. She is VERY lucky to be alive. She ended up having problems during delivery b/c of the accident. She is fine now but its awful how a decision can make that kind of impact on your life.
