I might start, not because he drools but because I tend to spray all over the place, especially in the mornings when I haven't pumped since the previous day. I go through a lot of burp clothes and tuck them under his chin, might as well use a bib!
I don't use them when I BF, but I have to when I give him BM from a bottle. He literally sprays it out of the corners of his mouth because he can't latch onto the bottle quite as well.
My girls tend to wear the Gerber cloth bibs that have a waterproof layer all the time. When they BF, they sometimes pull off when the tap is flowing :-) and they get dripped on. However, the real reason they wear them is because they tend to spit up (one more than the other), and it's a lot easier to change bibs than outfits! They sometimes dribble when they eat from a bottle too, although not as bad as when they were younger. Before I figured out the bib thing, I used burp cloths, but it was more for bottles than BF.

I have not had to use a bib while BF. I only need a bib when I supplement DD with formula from a bottle. She doesn't let my BM go to waste, even from a bottle. LOL.
I have approximately 223438293842374892 bibs and I've only used one once when she was really fussing at the breast and making a complete mess of me and herself.
Re: bibs for BF?
Burp clothes for bfing - once we gave him rice c we used bibs. It's up to you and if your kid spits up or leaks all over.
Good luck!

She loves her mommy's milk.
