Sick Lil' Guy *Update*

DS has been congested and cough-y for the last several days. Saturday morning he woke up with a fever of 101 and we went into the after-hours care clinic.  The physician who saw him said that both ears looked clean and healthy and his chest was clear.  When she looked at this throat, she said that was fine too, only some post nasal irritation. BUT she saw two big honking molars trying to make their way through.

He slept a good three hours after we got home and then conked out early last night.  Today he seemed right as rain until...

About 30 minutes ago, he woke screaming and crying. He was super warm and sure enough, temp of 100.6.  We gave him some Tylenol and snuggles and he was right back to sleep.  He's been coughing off and on so far.

Do you think this could be teeth related or maybe a latent ear infection/upper respiratory infection? We're still going to try to see his regular doc tomorrow, but I just needed some Dr. Mom opinions.

ETA:  We went to see the pedi this afternoon and it turns out DS has a sinus infection.  And a huge honking molar trying to get through. ;)

  • As a mom (and somewhat as a nurse) - the low grade temp can definitely be from the teeth. Especially those big bad molars. Once it climbs above 102, then you have to start looking elsewhere for an explaination and it is possible his runny nose made his ears flare up after the nose cleared out. The cough can cause fever but I'd expect it to be a lot higher if it were anything serious like pneumonia.

Motrin/Ibuprofen tends to work better for teething since it's an anti-inflammatory but if Tylenol works for your little man, keep giving it!

Thanks Taytee!  DS had pneumonia a few months ago and was running temps around 103, so I feel confident we're not in that category.  I appreciate the feedback from another mom (and nurse)!
