What are these spots? PIP

I've been gone all weekend and just got home today.  I just changed DDs diaper and noticed these spots on her chest and back.  I don't know if they'll show up in pictures...  they're red dots, some of them are raised slightly above the skin.  She doesn't have a temp, the bumps don't seem to bother her.  DH said that there is more now than there was earlier today.  DD had shots on April 6 (including chicken pox vaccine).  I don't think she's had any new foods lately.  Any thoughts?

  • I'm not sure what Roseola looks like, but I do know it is typically on the trunk.

Seems a little late for a reaction to shots- they told me up to a week later.

  • What's the temp where you live? It could be heat rash.

  • Looks like Rosceola to me...but if she has not had a fever all weekend that can't be it.  The rash only comes after the fever is gone.
  • It is common to develop a chickenpox-like rash 10-14 days after the vaccine.  She could have gotten a mild case of the chicken pox, too.  I think in a few days they may have white pus or some kind of discharge if it's chicken pox... I'm sure you will, but I'd call the Doc tomorrow!

  • My dr said the chix pox reaction starts about 6-10 days after the shot. ?And those kinda look like the spots that our daughter had. So maybe...

I'm no doctor though, I just play one on the Nest. ?:) ?

We live in MN -- heat rash definitely isn't a problem yet :)

This. I've read that it's common for the spots for come approx 2 weeks after the chicken pox shot.

  • She had a high fever from April 1-3, but this rash came too late after that to be roseola.

Please don't flame, but would you send her to daycare if the spots are still there tomorrow (if she's not showing any discomfort)?

  • I wouldn't until I spoke with Doctor. I think chicken pox are most contagious in the VERY beginning, but not sure.  I would hate to be THAT mom that infested daycare.  Plus it may be something else.

  • I can't really can't see them in the pictures but when you described it my first thought was heat rash.  DS gets that a lot, especially after being in his car seat for an extended period like when we run errands.  But we live in AZ so it isn't that uncommon.  Just strip her down so she can cool off and see if it goes away.

ETA:  Oops, just saw that you live in a cold climate.  So probably not heat rash.  lol

  • DD had a rash like that a few weeks ago.  Doc said it was likely something viral and to give benadryl until it cleared up.  It was pretty much gone after the first dose.
