Layout of Baby's Room - PIP

image

DH told me that a queen bed wouldn't fit in the baby's room. I need it to because I want to be able to sleep in there at night when/if he keeps me up at night :). It might be tight but we already have the bed so I think it will work. What do you think?

Re: Layout of Baby's Room - PIP

  • It looks like it will fit, we had a queen in the baby's room too but we opted to get rid of it. The baby is going to have a toy box, dresser, crib, rocker and ottoman, and changing table. I thought keeping the bed looked cluttered and I wanted it to look like a baby's room. i do not want to have the habit of sleeping in the same room. If it makes you more comfortable then do it!

  • I think it'll work! ?If it starts feeling tight you can always take the bed out later on, when you won't need to sleep in there so much.

We're opting for a fold-out futon sofabed plus a cozy rocking chair, and hoping we won't need to sleep in there.?

  • Looks like you have the room, it'll be most important while babe is new-new anyway, once they get to the point of having toys etc you won't want/need to be there.

Given the layout of the baby furniture, I would probably turn the bed 90 degrees counter-clockwise (in the pic) so it's up against the other wall giving you more floor space, just a though.

    Good luck with everything  :)

  • you may want to give it a few months before moving a bed into LO's room--I co-slept with DD for the first many months (didn't exactly plan on that happening) so she didn't even use her nursery. A friend of mine had a large bed in her son's room with custom bed linens to match the crib bedding and never once needed to sleep in there. You just never know what kind of sleeper your baby will be!
  • Thanks for all of your replies! It's really in there for more reasons than me having to stay there at times. The bed is already in the room and is currently used if someone (DH's dad, my parent etc) come to visit. If I take it out, there's nowhere else for it to go and I'd hate to get rid of it as it was expensive.

I will do as you suggested and leave it there for now. I will probably have to move it eventually but we will also be moving eventually (2-3 years) so maybe the time will be right.

    Thanks again!

  • I echo all the other posters... I have a *feeling* that when you're going to be in there with the little one?   You'll be *awake*.    You've got a monitor, of course, right?    We opted to throw a slipcover on the lazy boy (baby hurl on the comfy chair is never a good thing) and put that in there instead of a day bed, which was my original idea.     We had a 2nd hand dutailer rocker / ottoman in there the first time around.. that worked fine for us.

I do get the whole needing the bed for whoever may show up - especially if it's in there already..

Is the little guy going to be in with you in your room for a bit in a bassinet or something or no?

  • i'm assuming you have an extra queen already and that is why you want that size? otherwise- i'd just put in a twin.

We have a oversized recliner/rocker- and it works GREAT when we need to sleep in there - esp since there is NO room in DS's nursery for a bed - it's a tiny room.  We have slept on that recliner many times (when he's sick, etc). Might be another good option- and will keep the room looking like more of a nursery.... and as PP said- will help you NOT get in the habit of always sleeping in there.

  • Hey Christine :) Ya, I think we'll keep him in a bassinet for a while. I doubt I'll really use the bed in there too often. But I do want to keep it there because we may have some visitors, etc. :)
  • Hey Goldie- ya I definitely want to get in the habit of being displaced from my own bed! :) The bed is already there so I was going to leave it for now. I am sure this will change down the road though.
  • We also had a Queen bed in the xtra bedroom that is now a nursery. I think that room is smaller than yours, though. The bed just took up too much space and we sold it for a good price. That way it's just a baby room and now I can have the crib, dresser, changing table and a glider. If we had kept the bed the glider wouldn't fit. Plus, our bedroom is only 5 feet away, so no biggie. We plan on having the newborn in our room at the beginning, in a co-sleeper or Pack n Play. The only problem now is since we only have 2 bedrooms, there is no room for guests. They'll have to sleep on an inflatable mattress.

  • Jenn, I am planning on putting a twin bed in the baby's room bc I will have a close family friend stay with me after the baby is born.  I guess you could call her a nanny/babysitter bc she takes care of my daughter while I am at work.  But I don't like that word, she is more like family.  Anyway she is super excited that I am having a baby and I'm sure I won't be able to get rid of her, (besides I would love the help) so I might as well make her comfortable.  After she leaves, I'm sure I will end up sleeping in there with the baby.  It just makes to me.

I vote for you - keep the queen bed in the nursery.
