Will is on ear infection #6.
Pedi prescribed Augmentin. We got home, tried to give it to him and as soon as it hit his mouth, he started projectile vomiting.
We called the pedi, pedi called in a script for Omicef (sp?). We tried giving it to him and he immediately gagged and puked.
Augmentin was flavored with cherry, as Will loves cherry Tylenol. The Omnicef was flavored with bubblegum, as he digs amoxicillin.
Neither are a go.
How the eff do I get this kid to take this medicine????
Re: I need help ASAFP.
Put it in a bottle, the milk with make the flavor less intense for him.
Poor baby, I hope he feels better.
I hesitate to put it in a bottle because I don't want him to associate the bad taste with breastmilk.?
that's a tough call...i'm sure you've tried everything:(
Have you tried placing TINY little bits (like a drop at a time) of the meds in the far back of his cheek? It takes a while...but he may at least get some medicine in him.
The other thing you could try is using some type of distraction...that will make him happy in the midst of giving him the meds. (Bubbles work miracles!)
GL! I hope your little man feels better soon:(
this. i would try to skip the augmentin altogether. i got a script for it last friday and threw up all day saturday until i got new meds on sat afternoon
I agree. Augmentin wreaked havoc on my body, so I can't imagine what it would do to a little baby
We are on infection #5 and started augmentin today. DD usually takes meds very well. She actually gets excited when she sees the tylenol or vitamin bottle. She spit out most of her first dose and a bit of her second. I would try doing a little bit at a time and I usually give it to her lying down on her changing table.....gravity helps it get to the back of the mouth. Also, our pharmacy tech mentioned to give her food or milk first.
My doctor did give us a good piece of advice with any antibiotic, especially a strong one like augmentin. Try giving baby some yogurt, or better yet get a probiotic powder from your health food store. Antibiotics can kill off the good bacteria that belong in the digestive tract. Probiotics or yogurt can help to put some back. I mix the powder into DD food (cereal or bottle of BM) but not within 2 hours of antibiotic dose.
