Breastfeeding

Frustrated

I seem to have the exact opposite problem of some other people.  I have more milk than I know what to do with.  It is no big deal for me to pump 15 ounces while I am at work...I am only gone 5-6 hours.  LO only eats 5 ounces while I am gone.

I am frustrated because she does not like to eat off my left side (she only takes one side per feeding) and it is my "super boob".  I think there is too much milk and she can't handle it.  She will eat off my right side no problem but cries when I try to give her the left, they only time she will take the left is in the middle of the night or the rare occasion I can make a dream feed work while she is napping.

I had one day where this wasn't a problem, it was a day where I didn't drink as much water as I normally do the day before as normal so my supply was less.  I know this is not a solution because it is not good for me to decrease my water intake.

Basically if you have had any issues with oversupply/overactive letdown please let me know what you did to help it get under control.

Re: Frustrated

  • Maybe try pumping or expressing a little before you put her on that side.  I have one side that produces more and somethimes this helps so he isn't getting too much with let down.  HTH

  • I agree, express some before latching her on that side. When you pump, stop that side before you are empty. Pumping til you are empty tells your body that you need that much milk. It could get uncomfortable for a while, but hopefully it adjusts.
  • Also, instead of rotating breasts at every feeding, feed from one side for two feedings, so left side, left side, right side, right side, instead of left, right, left right. I hope that makes sense.
