Hello everyone, it looks like I'll be joining you for the next three months.
Well I just found out earlier this week that I have GD. I started Glyburide today and I started my blood testing and diet yesterday.
The thing is that my fasting number this morning was high at 122 (it should be below 100), then my after breakfast was 133 (should be below 140) and since then it's been going down.
I felt very dizzy after breakfast and checked my blood (just to see) and it was 64 so I had my snack. Then an hour later I still wasn't feeling well so I ate some more and checked it (again, just to see) and it was 57. Now I just got done with lunch and checked it again and it's 49. *I know I didn't need to check my blood those two times but I wasn't feeling well and I wanted to if that was why*
WTH is going on? I don't know if my body is trying to get used to the meds or what but obviously I'm new at this so I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this? TIA for your help!
Re: New here. Wanted to say hi and I have a question
Thanks girls. I called the doctor and she said I need to eat some protein and calories (I'm at work and don't have orange juice). She was concerned about the 49 but told me to keep checking it if I don't feel well and call back if it stays low.
I ate a few peanut M&M's and an apple and I'm feeling a little better.
Oh, and I'm only on 5mg of the Glyburide which I think is the lowest dose so she wants me to take half the pill in the morning and half in the evening. I might end up going off of it completely if my blood stays low. Well see.
Thanks again though!
With my GD, I control my day meals with diet alone (my breakfast, lunch and dinner readings have to be below 120 and have been since I started the diet). Then I take the Glyburide at night to control my sugars when I sleep. I only take 2.5 mg at night which make my fasting number less than 90 in the morning.
Maybe talk to your doctor to see about lowering your meds to 2.5g? I was told whenever I felt lightheaded or dizzy and took a reading under 70 to call the doctor. Your numbers seem really low.
Again, it could just be that we are all different but a number in the 40's seems a bit scary to me!
