Mom's of girls? for ya

DD has been grabbing her vagina each and every time she gets a change.. Okay fine she is learning her body, but i say yes that is your vagina and this a.m. i swear she grabbed herself and said gina OH my lord..

My ? is how do you refer to the vagina what is the name you have named it?

    Uh...Vagina.  That's what it is (unless you want to teach her the word labia.)

    Theres A LOT of controversy about this topic! LOL

    Some are pro "nick names" and some are NOT!  We call it a pee-pee.  YES I know that its not Anatomically correct but its just what I am comfortable with.

    Ya i used to call it "bottom" but someone told me to refer to it as what it is so we started and i was just curious! TIA

    We haven't called it anything yet.  We're still working on "where's your hair, belly, eyes, etc...", lol!  But I'm going to teach her that it's her private area until she's a bit older (2-3ish probably) and then I'll teach her the correct anatomical terms not limiting to just vagina.

    Well, since "vagina" isn't really anatomically correct, I'm pretty pro nickname, but um, as for a name...Indifferent  Now I'm going to have to think on this...

    My DD does the same thing - grabs at herself when in the tub.  I guess if you really want to be correct - she is touching her vulva - right?  That is the correct term for the whole area, right?  I was just thinking last night as I was bathing her that I need to get over my discomfort and teach her the correct name.

    We say "girl parts" for dd and "boy parts" for ds.

    I have no idea yet.  She grabs at it during changes but I haven't commented on it.  When I bathe her I tell her I'm cleaning her bottom though.

    I call it her vagina.  God forbid this ever happens to my DD or anyone else's, but there are a lot of times when a child has been sexually abused and it's hard to prosecute the person because the child doesn't know the correct name for their parts.  Some parents will call it a "cookie" or something cute like that and it's confusing to all people involved.

    I love this message board. ?DD just started doing this the past few days and I have been saying "yes, that is your vagina" and then thinking should I be saying that or something else?! ?I guess, I will keep doing that. ?I have no recollection of what I called it as a child - maybe a pee pee? ?

    I call it her hoo-ha.  But she'll know that it's also called her vagina....  On a side note, my mom never said to me "that's your vagina..."  And believe it or not I know that it is indeed my vagina.
