Kinda gross: ear wax?

My kids have the grossest waxy ears of any of the children I have ever cared for.

I qtip them regularly and wash them when bathing. You could still grow potatoes. :-)

Anyone used Debrox or something like it on a toddler? I am wondering if DS pronunciation might improve if I clear out some of the debris in there.

I keep forgetting to ask the pedi about it. Just want Nestie wisdom on the subject.

Re: Kinda gross: ear wax?

  • Not sure what Debrox is but the good friend uses mineral oil.  He puts a few drops in, lets it work its way down, then wipes with a cotton ball or tissue.

You may want to Google it.  But he's apparently done it that way for years.

  • my ENT suggested a mix of peroxide and water in equal amounts in a aspirator, spray it in, let it sit a few minutes. My DD never stays still for it.

  • Yeah, I don't see DS sitting still for that. LOL

  • Your kiddos are probably too young for this but they have those "ear cone" things that are supposed to draw out the icky stuff.
  • I think even with debrox they have to let it get in there and keep still for a bit. Am I right debrox people?

I usually just take her to the ENT every 3-6 mos and have him do it.

  • I'll pin him down and then give him ice cream. That should hold him long enough.
