We're expecting boy/girl twins and the nursery we are doing is Dr. Seuss and is very gender-neutral, but I'm worried I'm going too boy-ish. ?
3 walls will be "light honeydew melon" which is a very pale green and the 4th wall will be a mural from The Lorax (green hills, multi-colored trees). ??
I got them both blue breathable bumpers, because they were the only ones that looked good with the sheets. ?
For the dust ruffles and the curtain we're going to use instead of a closet door, I wanted to buy red seersucker fabric and make them, but I'm worried the red will look bad with the green.
?If I do blue or green will that be too boyish?
?
Sorry this got so long! ?Thanks for reading. ??
Re: need help with fabric choice
Hi!
I have also been struggling with not making the room too girly or boyish so take my thoughts with a grain of salt
Any chance you could find a fabric that ties the blue & green together? Could you do stripes or checks maybe or would it be too busy with the mural?
ETA: I like this fabric- I was thinking of having crib skirts custom made & was considering this fabric & a coordinating pink/brown/green one... If the stripes would be too much, maybe a white crib skirt with a strip of something like this around the bottom or something. Just a thought
https://www.buyfabrics.com/p-2231-terrace-kelso-brown-french-blue.aspxis this similar to what you're doing for the mural? what colors will be in the mural?
Have you already painted the room? I always advise choosing fabric first and then match paint b/c there are so many more paint choices than there are fabrics when you're trying to match. just a thought! not sure exactly what green you're doing but these are neutral.
these are all from www.warehousefabricsinc.com
Im also doing a neutral dr. seuss nursery. Mine is based more on the cat in the hat and one fish, two fish....
I think you can find some fabrics with green and blue that incorporate other colors like red and yellow and it will not look too boyish.
That is almost exactly what we are doing - only the green is deeper (more grass-green) and I chose a tomato-y orange to replace the pink in the trees.
Is that your nursery? That looks great!
No, it's not my nursery. Just a photo I found online when I googled Dr. Suess murals.
I would say stick with the green stripe to coordinate with your wall color. i don't think that will be too boyish.
It's a small world! Last year I made a custom rocking chair for a lovely lady in this kelso brown french blue fabric. It's nice fabric, easy to work with, with a good weave and weight.
Sara, I think this fabric would look terrific as curtains and crib bedding.
GL shopping! Make sure to check online before you buy though- that kelso brown french blue fabric I linked above (and another posted showed on the chair) was like $17.99/yd in the store I was looked at and $6.95/yd online.
