I posted last night about whether or not I should take E to the ER because he has been vomitting off and on for 10 days now, has lost weight, cries constantly, and is clearly in pain. He is not dehydrated because he will go a day without vomitting and then it will start up again. As of Monday, he had lost half a pound in 4 days, and has lost prior to that as well. The pedi ordered an upper GI and I had yet to hear from anyone.
Well, today the good news is, his weight was up slightly (although he had a full pee diaper on so I am not sure if this is accurate--and that worries me) but the pedi said if he had lost more he was going to admit him, but he hadn't. Apparently that means we will continue to do nothing. He changed his formula and changed his reflux meds, and gave me a number to call to schedule the upper GI (thanks, why not give me that on MONDAY?!?!) and said if it continues they will admit him. Honestly, at this point, I would prefer that, I want to know what is going on with him and he is so miserable the poor little guy.
I am currently fighting tears because I just called to schedule the upper GI and they apparently hardly ever do them on children because they put me on hold for 10 minutes to find out "if they could even do it" then they came back said he can't eat for 8 hours prior to the test and scheduled me at noon on next Wed. WTF, really, so I get to skip two bottles, that will be lots of fun. My only other option is to wait an additional week to the following Wed and have the appt at 11. I am tired and not sure what to do to help him. Do I call the pedi and see if they can pull strings or just leave it. I hate this.
Re: Update on us, back from the pedi (again)
I've been reading your posts and I feel soooo bad for you!!! Poor lil guy and poor you!!! The uncertainty must be likking you....I know the feeling!! I would say to pull thise strings, call however many times you have to...they are not the one's at home having to see him like this....easy for them to just wait!!!
My daughter was born with TEF and has severe reflux...I remember we had to take her to the hospital once for vomiting to the point of vomiting blood and they did an upper GI early in the morning but then had to wait for the results before she could eat!!! Well..the GI was done at 8am and the results came in at 5pm..I was steaming mad!!! She was screaming!!!!! They are such effin idiots!! And this was at a Children's hospital!!! Do whatever you have to do to make sure they find out what is going on....neither of you should have to live with this day to day and have no one really do anything!!
I am so mad for you!!!!! I really hope your pedi can pull some strings and get him seen ASAP!!
Ditto this - definitely ask for/find a pediatric GI specialist!! When Teddy had his surgery they specifically told us they always schedule babies as the first appt. of the day so they don't have to go as long without eating. If this place doesn't know if they can even do it and then schedules a mid-day appt. for a baby, I'd be out the door.
I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this - you're doing the right things and are such a great Mom to be advocating for your DS when he's suffering so much. Keep fighting for him Mama - we're with you!!
