3rd Trimester

Worried about baby movement

So last month i could feel her all the time, but it seems that as soon as I hit my 7th month i couldn't feel her as much. but when I did she would kick alot at once. now she hardly kicks or moves at all. I have only felt her twice today. This morning she kicked 5 times in a row, that was before i went to bed and since I woke up she has only kicked like once or twice.
Do any of you think I should be really concerned or call my docs.

I am kind of worried. I mean I know that I wouldn' t feel her as much as before, its just before her kicks were soo often and pretty hard. now there not. :(

I need advice what do you guys think?

Re: Worried about baby movement

  • please call your doc. right away. If you have only felt the baby kick twice today that is not good. You should be able to feel the baby kick 10 times in 1 hour.

  • Try drinking some orange juice or cold water and laying on your left side for a while and see how many times the baby kicks. If you still don't feel much movement and are worried, give your doctor a call.
  • my doc said that the movements won't be hard kicks or punches anymore but more wiggling around, and also that I might not feel him all the time but there should definitely be at least two or three periods during the day when he's very active.  usually for my baby that's when I first wake up before I get out of bed and after meals sometimes.  but it varies.

if you're worried, call your dr. what do you have to lose by calling? you know your baby better than anyone else.

  • i would definitely call if you are feeling worried...if only to ease your mind.  you shouldn't be feeling 10 kicks every hour of the day - thats not realistic - poor baby has to sleep some too!  but my doc said there should be at least a few periods during the day where he is moving a bunch.  its not always kicks - sometimes moving, repositioning and squirming.  when all else fails, drink a glass of really cold OJ and lay on your left side - you should be able to feel about 10 movements in the hour after that.

  • You should call your doctor just to be sure...but also take a deep breath and try to relax. The same thing happened to me about that time. I had myself all upset and it just turned out that... basically- that far along- they are getting to big to really give you a "hit" or "kick"... and as long as you are feeling them- that's a good sign. You also have to remember that they can change position pretty often and your LO could have just turned around so you aren't able to feel much anymore!

  • I just talked to my doctor about this today... my baby is not the most active baby (or so it seems after talking to other pregnant women), but she said that I should feel 4-5 movements every hour and if not, I should come in. Yesterday I hardly felt her at all, which made me really nervous. But today she's been moving quite a bit (I'm currently getting kicked in the ribs :) ) I would call, just so you can relax, but I'm sure everything is fine!!!
  • Never hurts to call the doctor.

    Best of luck.
