Nursing schedule for 7 mo?

This might be better suited for 6-12, but all of you ladies have been extremely helpful to me, so I figured I'd start here.  I think DD just dropped a feeding so we're now at 5 per day plus some random middle of the night wakings.  I'm just not sure if I should be concerned about the dropped feeding.  Our schedule until a few days ago was:

6:30 am nurse

8am breakfast (oatmeal + fruit)

10 am 5 oz bottle at daycare

noon - veggie

1 pm 5 oz bottle

4pm 5 oz bottle

6pm nurse

7pm veggie / fruit

8pm nurse / bed

I felt like all I was doing was feeding her when I got home from work - the past few days, we've tried giving her "dinner" at 6 when we get home, then just nursing before bed at 8.  She seems to be fine with it so far, but of course I want to make sure she's still getting enough BM.  WDYT - ok to drop the 6pm nursing and move the solids to 6 instead?  TIA and sorry so long!

Re: Nursing schedule for 7 mo?

  • Hey!  It's my understanding that BM should be her main source of nutrition until she's 1.  So I would focus more on making sure she's gettin enough BM/formula. She's getting 15 oz via bottle, and then you are nursing her 3x a day, currently?  And if you dropped a feeding, you would only be nursing her 2x a day?  I think they need at least 24 oz right now.....so I'd at least add a bottle if you are going to drop a feeding.  I try to do solids an hour after I nurse, so he's not starving and eating so many solids, that he doesn't want to nurse the next time.  Could you try the solids at 5 (or whenever you get home, since the bottle is at 4) and then just nurse the rest of the night as needed until bed?  I've read that babies who are away from their mom's during the day seem to nurse a lot in the evening/night b/c they are trying to make up for not getting it during the day....maybe this is why you feel like all you are doing is feeding her!  But I would check with yoru pedi as far as what is the minimum amount of milk they need at this age also, that may help your decision.  GL!
