Head and Shoulders for cradle cap?

DS went to the pedi today for his two month apt and the Dr. recommended that I use a dandruff shampoo (like Head and Shoulders) 2-3 times a week for his cradle cap.  Has anyone else heard of this?  I would think his skin was too sensitive but the Dr said it was OK, for some reason I'm still a little hesitant.

  • H & S burns like *** when it gets in your eyes...I would NEVER use it on DS.

  • I heard this too and tried it but it didnt seem to work. Aveeno baby worked for us. Now its barely there at all after only a couple of uses.
  • We were also told to use a dandruff shampoo.  The pedi gave us a specific name (it wasn't for babies though).  I was just very careful to only put a little on and make sure if didn't get in his eyes.  Oh we were also told to put some baby oil on his head before we put shampoo on.

  • My pediatrician said bath her every other day.  every other day i bathe her do regular shampoo, and the other times use nutragena tgel.  so far it's starting to work.  i am also using baby oil, letting it sit for 5 mins, and brushing it out before every bath.
  • i would just let it go.

I just let DD's go.  It's not hurting her, just not that attractive.  Oh well.

  • DS is too sensitive for Aveeno, our pedi said H&S, it worked for us,

And yes, we were careful not to get it in his eyes.

  • We also used H&S at the advice of our pedi. It worked great. Cradle cap gone.
  • I guess we will give it a 'go'.....very carefully.  Thanks

  • I scrub DS's head really well with aveeno baby every night and it's practically gone. I also brush it out and then put a little aveeno lotion on the dry areas of his scalp.
  • It works great...if you cant wash lo head w/o getting soap in the eyes you have bigger issues to worry about because tearless shampoo stings too. If you have not tried it, don't, it hurts...
  • my pedi said the same thing and warned about being extra careful to keep it out of his eyes
