but has anyone here ever heard of cat scratch fever? I got scratched by a cat the other day and my MIL said I should be glad I wasn't pregnant when it happened because I could have contracted cat scratch fever and the fetus could have died. I laughed, but she seemed REALLY serious...

Yes, it's real. You can develop a bad infection from a cat scratch, pregnant or not. That being said, I have three cats and grew up in a house full of cats (not like, crazy cat lady full but we always had them) and honestly can't remember a time in my life when I was cat-scratch-free. I always have at least one. I've never gotten sick from them.

Well it's good to know MIL wasn't just scaring me. Does it only effect you if you are allergic to cats (like I am), or can it effect anyone?
