Just had our 4 month appt yesterday. Our pedi wants us to start solids now. We're going to wait at least 1 1/2 weeks because we're going on vacation next week, but then we'll give it a try. But I fully plan on really following DS's cues on this. Which my pedi wants us to do anyhow- she said that if he doesn't seem ready, to just wait another week or 2 before trying again.

My ped gave the ok for Katelyn at her 4 mo appt since she was holding her head up and gaining well. We still haven't started them yet. She's not acting super interested in solids at the dinner table at night (she sits w/ the rest of the family while we eat) and she's doing fine on breast milk and formula. I'll probably offer them w/in the next couple of wks, though.
She was getting hungrier and hungrier (just breastmilk). Our pedi said 4months. So we tried it with rice first. The first day she pushed it out with her tongue. The next day she loved it and is a great eater. We have been adding things slowly the last month, rice, oatmeal, sweet potato, carrots, squash. We are trying green veggies this weekend and trying those for a week or so. Then fruit.
You will know if they are NOT ready. But for us she was very ready.
My pedi went over this at our 4mo. checkup and we started rice cereal that night. I think it is typically up to your doc. I thought my LO was ready when he started wanting more after he finished a feeding. I also BF and suppliment a formula bottle occasionally on the days I work. Yes I would def wait for the ok from the pedi bc some of them wait until 6mo.

Our pedi said we could start DS at our 4 month appt, but he really didn't seem ready for it, so we have been holding off. He is just now starting to seem interested in the food we are eating. We are planning to probably start him on rice cereal in a couple of weeks, when he is 5+ months.
Started at 5 months when her daily intake of formula shot up from 36 oz to 49 oz. She also has good head control, is close to sitting up unassisted, and started reaching and grabbing for things. So far just doing rice cereal one time a day, next week going to start doing cereal 2x's a day for 2 weeks and then start adding in veggi's and fruits when she is around 6 months. The pedi recommended we start at her 4 month appt but I didn't feel she was ready yet.
We haven't started solids yet. Our pedi left it up to us when to start. DD 's growing fine and is satisfied by BM alone, so we're not rushing. We'll probably start towards the end of this month as she'll be six months at the beginning of May.
Although I love my pediatrician, I totally disagree with his take on when to start solids. He told me we should start at 6 months. We started at 4 1/2 months. Slowly but surely she is starting to like eating. If I had only started at 6 months, she wouldn't be eating well until 7 or 8 months and that is way too late.
