Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If you did CIO...need advice

DD has officially become very difficult at night since we've transitioned to the crib. (she did sttn before 3 months 3 weeks) She woke up last night around 2 am. She was tired, but everytime I put her back down she would wake up again wide awake. It's like If I am not right there to soothe her every night, she won't sleep. Anyhow, it was a 2 1/2 hour time frame before I finally got her back to bed, AND I could do it only in the play pen next to our bed. I finally gave up on the crib out of exhaustion. Dh works at the ER in the hospital and of course he talks to the nurses and they are saying we should do CIO.

Here's my fear: I fear the thought of my LO thinking I am not there to meet her needs.   How long do I really let it go? I can hardly handle 10 minutes of crying without comforting her... When is crying for so long not healthy anymore?   Also, do I go in and comfort her during this time?

I need to know more about this CIO before I can think about doing it.

TIA.

  • Try Ferber or sleepeasy solution.  You go in and check and soothe them periodically.

Also does she go down drowsy but awake when you put her to bed?

Yes. Thanks I'll look up those methods.

  • pick up Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. ?It discusses CIO, but also the "sometimes cry" (go in and soothe periodically) and "no cry". ?That way, you can determine what is best for you. ?I'm not sure how long you can let them cry with CIO. ?I thought I read somewhere you can let them cry an hour... but that seems really long to me.
  • Thanks, Megs. Just got the book in the mail yesterday.
