If you had success increasing your supply . . .

can you tell me what you did?  I had surgery and now I have a very low supply (at most I get an ounce when I pump).

Re: If you had success increasing your supply . . .

  • fenugreek, protein shakes, eating real oatmeal (not instant)
  • Loading the player...
  • lots and lots of water. I strive for at least 100 oz. a day!
  • I increased supply by feeding every two hours and pumping every one hour 3 x a day
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • I just had 5 days off so DD and I nursed/pumped all the time.  She was going to breast every 2 hours or so and I was pumping on the hour in between.  I only did it for 4 of the 5 days.  I increased my supply by about 5 oz in the morning and an ounce to two ounces each pump after that.

I also drink a ton of water and eat a lot of protein.  I notice the days I don't my supply isn't as great the next day.

Now that I'm back to working two days with one off for almost two weeks I'm going to add power pump sessions in whenever possible to keep it up.  I work 12 hour shifts and pump 3 times while I'm at work but my supply still suffers a bit when I work a lot of days in a row.

    What's a power pump session?

  • I'm on Fenugreek and I think it helps marginally.  Honestly, though, the two things that are most influential for me are getting enough rest and getting enough water.  My supply takes a big hit when I'm not sleeping enough or when I get dehydrated.

(Earlier this week I had a couple of nights with only 2-3 hours of sleep.  I couldn't pump more than 2-3 ounces per session, and usually I can hit 5 ounces without a problem.)
