Girl type themes for a party with boys?

I had no idea really how to word the tittle. I posted the other day that I needed a theme for DD's birthday. I was thinking a beach type of theme but did luau last year and thought it might be too close. I like the idea of flowers, and DD likes the whole idea of a princess theme, but the party will probably have acutally more boys than girls and I am worried these thems will be too girly. Would you just do the beach theme and save the girl type themes for when DD is older and her parties are more girls?

I know her birthday is still months away but Hobby Lobby has a lot of things for our summer theme on sale this week so I am trying to decide.

  • You could do a 'royalty' party where the little boys wear masculine type crowns. I've seen this before and it works.

  • We've had a joint birthday party for the past 2 years for DD and DS, since their birthdays are only a couple weeks apart. There were both boys and girls there. Last year, we did a zoo animal theme. This year, we did a Sesame Street theme. I'm planning to save the gender-specific themes for when the kids are a little older and having their own parties.

  • We did a pirates and princess party a few years ago. ?I now see P&P stuff EVERYWHERE I look :-)
  • I would say that you could do the princessy thing, with boys as Prince Charming or knights in shining armor or something. Plastic swords, buy crowns, dragons, that kind of thing.

  • My sister did a "princess and pirates" theme.  It was cute.

I've already thought out Maren's first bday (yes, I am crazy) and want to have a pajama party at like 10 in the morning.  Everyone can come in their jammies and I will serve fruit, doughnuts, mimosas, etc.  I am not sure what I'll do for entertainment yet.  Maybe a bounce house?  I just thought that was a cute/neutral idea.

  • We went to a b-day party for a little girl last year and it was a Princess theme.  There were more boys there than girls, but they didn't mind as long as they got a piece of cake :)

  • my kids bdays are a month apart so we will be doing combo parties most of the time (unless it's a big milestone bday or something).  This year I think we'll either do the carousel or a circus theme.  I also like Candy Land, a hayride (if they have fall bdays), Halloween or Costume theme, Princesses and Pirates, Curious George, Mickey Mouse....there are tons of ideas.
