2 questions: #1 Info on Ren. Womens Group, #2 Techniques on relaxing/winding down?

Without going into detail (because I just don't have the energy to tell the story for the 387th time today), I've had a bad, exhausting, frustrating day.  So....

#1: RWG - for those that go to this practice, have you been happy in general? I'm getting another ultrasound there on Tuesday.  I want to say that recently I read some disturbing stuff on this board about their staff/mixing up records/giving patients incorrect test results, but I might be dreaming that up.... anyway just looking for some reassurance that it's all good. :)

#2:  I am still really really keyed up and anxious, as I have been since 8am.  I can't seem to wind down, relax, and let go of the anxiety from today.  What things do you do to relax?  I suck at the whole meditation/listening to soft music/soaking in the tub kind of relaxing... the only things that have ever been theraputic for me are drinking (clearly can't do that!) and shopping (and since we STILL don't know what we're having I can't very well do that!)  So, gimme some ideas please!  What helps you relax?

 TIA!

  • Read a book or magazine?  Give yourself a mani or pedi, or go have one done?  Some times cleaning works for me too, don't know why though.  Or just watching TV or surfing the web.

  • I'm zero help with RWG but I've found that just blogging has helped me...just write, write about anything and it can be private or you can let the world in. :)  Hope things get better!
  • I did not personally have a bad experience with RWG - I'm at another practice right now where I did have a bad experience (several, in fact.)  The current practice has just offered to pay for me to have another u/s @ RWG to try to make up for the poor experience I had with them (current practice).  I accepted but then thought I remembered hearing something bad about RWG, and was just looking for reassurance that I wasn't going to just go have the same thing happen at their office as well... So, very glad to hear that you've been happy. :)

  • No help with RWG,but my top relaxers are

    1. watching a movie

    2. going for a walk

    3. doing a guided meditation from a CD that I have.

#3 isn't really an option without the cd, but the idea that you try to turn off the negative "script" that is playing in your head is key. Sometimes just going fora  walk and mentally reciting song lyrics or counting or anything that keeps your mind from repeating the troubling thoughts helps.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • I see Dr Collins at rwg and love her to bits. The staff hasn't made any mistakes with me. the ultrasounds are upstairs with Dr. Darby and of the zillions US's I had only one tech sucked. Heck when I had a crappy day, they'd turn on the 4d stuff and play around with the baby to cheer me up.

relaxing is very hard for me too so not too much help there. sorry.

Good luck with your US :)

  • I saw Dr. Litzinger with Megan and now see Dr. Mills for #2 (Dr. Litzinger is no longer practicing).  I've had a good exp with RWG and both Drs.  I did have a billing issue when I was pg with Megan but it was quickly resolved and nothing that would keep me from reccomending them.
  • No info on RWG, but I wanted to say that maybe getting a massage or facial will be relaxing? I love getting facials. Mani and pedi are nice too-- a fun treat.?

  • 1. I'm also a Dr. Collins girl and have been nothing but pleased.  The only complaint I had was that I had to wait until 13w to get my first u/s, but that was more because I was impatient and less about their ability/willingness to practice medicine.

    2. Do you have a dog?  Playing with & taking my pup for a walk always helps me.  Ask the hubs for a massage (or schedule one!).  Get a great mani/pedi (I had one today and it was FAB).

    Hope things get better soon!!!

  • i'm no help w/ 2, but I'm another happy patient of RWG.

You're with your current practice b/c they have midwives? Have you considered switching practices if you hire a doula? It sounds like you haven't been thrilled over there...

  • I just switched to Dr.Collins after seeing a wonderful OB Dr Braunstein (only because she switched practices and it became to far). I have gotten a lot of EXCEPTIONAL reviews for RWG and my first visit went incredibly well.

As for taking your mind off and being anxious, trying walking around Target or the Mall that always seems to help me.

This is exactly what we are considering, and definitely leaning towards.

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies!  I did actually do some writing, chatted on the phone with my ILs, and that helped a little.  Luckily DH stopped his "Geek Night" early last night and I was able to hang out with him, which helped a whole bunch!  We watched the DVD from our u/s today and that calmed me down enough to get sleepy.  :)
  • I am sorry you had a bad experience at your practice!  If it's not working for you, don't be afraid to leave.  Sometimes it just doesn't work out.  I have kind of figured out which practice you go to based on the conversation in this thread, so I am assuming you want a low-intervention birth (If medically feasible/possible).  I know there are great doctors at RWG who are supportive of that.

I hope you are feeling better today and that you get it figured out.
