okay, yes, I know what the books say that in the first few months of feeding solids they do not replace the bottle, baby should still be drinking the same amounts, etc. But, my babies do not--they do not eat a lot at this point, 2-3 times a day they have rice with veggie or fruit. But, they have cut back on their bottles--my son was drinking consistently drinking 7oz 5x/day and now is drinking around 5-6 oz 5x/day and my daughter has gone from 7oz consistently to 6oz. My son also has begun waking up 1x/night to eat again and I give him 4oz but I can't get more down him during the day (he refuses).
Can you share your experiences in this area (my babies are 8 months old)
thanks!!
Re: Solids affecting bottle feeding?
I'm BF'ing, but what I do is nurse and then 30-45 minutes later I'll feed her. She still eats the same amount - at least from what I can tell by how long she is nursing.
Are you giving the bottle 1st or 2nd?
They should be getting 24 to 30 oz per day.
Sounds like your son is drinking 25 to 30 oz. And if your daughter has 6 oz five or six times a day, then she is drinking 30 to 36 oz.
On average, DS drinks 24 oz a day. There are days when he only drinks 20 or 22 oz. I really don't sweat it b/c he doesn't do it every day.
On the other hand, if your DS is waking hungry during the night, then I would try to cut back on the solids a little in order to increase his formula.
And my DS has cereal 2 times a day. Maybe if you do that, he will drink more. Also, at lunch, I used to give him a veggie and a fruit, but now I cut out the fruit and replaced it w/ formula in order to make sure he gets enough.
