a baby gift for a girl i haven't seen in over two years and haven't talked to since high school just because i got invited to her shower? i can't go- and sadly i know i was invited because she doesn't have many friends...but we're also on a budget....argh do i have to buy a gift??????

    Not going = no gift. You don't have to buy gifts for events you don't attend.

    i guess i thought you still are supposed to give a gift if you are invited- like to a wedding or a shower, even if you can't go. if not...yippee!!

    In this circumstance, I'd say no. If you were closer to her, then I would say send a gift along with another guest.

    For showers you're usually expected to give a gift even if you don't attend, but you don't have to.

    In this case I would definitely not send a gift. If it was someone that I was close to and I couldn't go, I would still send something.

    Then again - if she is inviting you and it has been that long...maybe she will really really need stuff?!?! Who knows. I may cave and send something small!

    No way! I definitely never expected gifts from people who couldn't make it to my events.
