Daisy...but as a middle name

I would love to name a little girl Daisy, but I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea.

So what if her middle name is Daisy...and DH and I just call her that? If she hates it later in life, she can switch to her first name.

i.e. Madeleine Daisy

Thoughts?

Re: Daisy...but as a middle name

  • I love Daisy! I think it's very sweet as a middle name.

  • Speaking from experience, making a name switch later in life is a PITA.  Don't do that.   If you're going to call her Daisy, use that as a first name.

  • Would you be pissed at your parents if they had named you something cutesie like Daisy? I wouldn't...but I'm a girly girl.

  • DH wanted to name our DD this but I said no.  If you love it you should name your little girl that.  As a teacher, it gets confusing when the child goes by there middle name.
  • Daisy is traditionally a nickname for Margaret
    (look here, for example: https://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Daisy)

I think that naming her Margaret and calling her Daisy would be perfect.  That way she has the option of a more grown up name later (I agree Daisy is a bit cutsey for an adult).

I wouldn't give her Daisy as a middle name and assume she could later switch to using her first name.  Once Daisy is what she's called, she's going to have a hard time switching to her first name.

  • I think having one daughter named Violet and the second named Daisy is a little too 'cute'.   Both names are sweet but not as a matched set.

Reminds me of a woman I worked with whose name was Ruby.  Her sister's name was Pearl.  Neither could ever understand why their parents did this.

  • I actually really like it either as a first name or middle.  I do think going by a middle name is confusing and probably a PITA.  I think Daisy and Violet sound cute together although I understand some people might think it's cheesy.  Your DD and mine have the same middle name.  Big Smile

  • I like Daisy. It's my kitty's name. I haven't taught any Daisy's so it's not super popular. It is a cute name though.

  • I've always thought it was a cute name. But DH would never go for it. Now that our DD is 2.5 years old and obsessed w/Mickey Mouse, all I can think of is Daisy Duck.
  • I love Daisy! It's such a cute name. I say go for it!
  • If you want to call her Daisy then name her Daisy. Others will accept it with time. Besides it is a very pretty name.

I'm half Chinese and my brothers, sister and I all have Chinese middle names.  I wanted to do the same with my kids.  I had help from my dad with DS's middle name (it's my maiden name but with the more contemporary spelling) and then I googled Chinese names to find DD's middle name.  I like the meaning(s) and I thought it sounds good with Evangeline.  Sometimes we call her Evie Mei.  How about you?

  • My great grandmother was Daisy, and my grandmother is Madelyn, so I love them both! Daisy is quite popular in the UK. I think it is cute.

  • I love the name Daisy (makes me think of The Great Gatsby).  I agree that it seems a bit cutesy - especially with another child with a flower name - but I wonder if it will still seem cutesy in 20 years when she's a professional.  So many old-fashioned names are becoming popular that it might not be a big deal.  I'd have reservations, though.
  • LOVE IT!!! As a first or middle name! So cute!!
  • If you like it I think you should just name her Daisy Madelyn.

If she really wants to change it, what is the diff.. if it is her first or middle?

Daisy is cute. I would use it as a first name if you are going to call her Daisy. I say go for it! Violet and Daisy sound like sisters. It's not too "cutesy".?
  • I like it but think of it as a little girls name which would be OK since you are actually making it MN.
  • I like it (and I love Violet), but I think sisters named Violet and Daisy is a little too matchy-matchy.
  • I like it. Very cute!
  • I think it is very cute, too! I like it!
  • We have thought about Elizabeth Daisy and doing the same thing.

Very F. Scott Fitzgerald-ish, although the character of Daisy Buchanan is definitely not someone to emulate.

  • Am I the only one that think Daisy sounds like a stripper name?  I would have a hard time taking a woman named Daisy seriously; cute for a little girl, not for a grown woman.
