Babies: 9 - 12 Months

A huge weight lifted!!

DS has been seeing a pediatric urologist since three months for a bilateral hydrocele (the "what" is not really relevant to my story). Anyway, to start, the receptionist was really rude to me the first time I called. Then I was not thrilled with our doc the first time I met him - then DH met him and had the same reaction I did (he's just "too cool for school" and his bedside manner with DS sucks). Well I went back 3 more times thinking I'd just see how things go. My opinion never changed and my final straw was our last visit.

He's been pushing us into surgery and when I asked questions about the risks, how often he does it blah blah, in his always-blase way he responded that things will be fine - KNOCK ON WOOD. Both DH and I had the same reaction - wtf? Knock on wood that OUR BABY WILL BE OK? We went ahead and scheduled the surgery anyway but I have been freaking out about it.

Anyway, I am SO excited because I finally found someone we can go to for a second opinion (pediatric urology is not a ginormous specialty here) and the receptionist was just wonderful and made me feel really great about going there! Relief! I'm cancelling our surgery appt right now.

  • I am so glad you found someone new. There is nothing worse than taking you LO to a doctor you hate with horrible bedside manner.
  • A ds of our friends had a bilateral hydrocele. He had it drained at 6 months. However she only went along with the surgery because he was told he had a double hernia also. (didn't end of having)

Anyways, she was told that they could wait 1 year to see if the hydrocele went down on its own. She now regrets having the procedure done since it was unnecessary. Good luck

  • That's so great!  Good for you for going with your gut and searching out someone new.  I hope you hear a much better solution from this new Dr.  GL!
