After
our baby is born I am planning to stay home with him. I plan to
breastfeed but also want a pump so I can pump milk and DH can feed him
too.
For the NFTMs out there - is it really necessary to get the Pump in
Style for this situation? I'm seriously considering the Swing, but
want to make sure I'm not making some crazy mistake. I figure I can
pump one while or right after he nurses on the other...is that insane?
Re: Pump recommendation - opinions please!
I would never buy a pump that wasn't closed system ESPECIALLY if I was a SAHM and not getting "full" value out of it every day and so likely to use it for later kids or want to pass it on to a friend or sister or something. You just can't share a non-closed system pump, that would be gross. I think they're gross, period. And ALL the medelas are not closed system.
I would only ever get the Ameda Purely Yours or equivalent closed system pump.
Otherwise I would be getting a cheapie manual pump I had no intention of keeping past weaning. That might be ok if you don't need to use it much. I actually have a friend who put her DS on a cup at 9 months and MANUALLY (ie with no pump at all) expressed for the next 3 months. Don't ask how I have no idea.
Wow, marrymemylove, that's crazy/amazing that your friend hand expressed for 3 months! She sounds like a rock star!
Great advice about the closed vs not closed system. I asked this question on another board and got a lot of recommendations for the Lansinoh double electric. I'm going to check on whether it's closed system now
