You have the option to decline them. So if you don't want them until labor then don't get them! The less you get the less chance there is for bacteria to be introduced.
While that is a great reason to decline internals, I am looking forward to my first internal and the ones following that. I just like to know if I am making any sort of progress, it gives me a littte boost.
Well they might tell you how dilated are, but that doesn't mean anything. All women "progress" differently, you could be dilated 2cm in the morning then progress to 10cm by that evening, or you could be at 2cm for the next 4 weeks. So knowing how dilated or effaced you are will not tell you when you are going to have your baby.
Obviously it's up to you if you want internals, but some people don;t realize they can decline. I posted this for people who say they don't want them or aren't excited.
i don't think this is a very good PSA bc we, as adults, have the option of declining anything we want and i also think that this advice should be something that women hear from their doctors, midwives or other.
not a random woman on the internet having her first child.
And rerebean, I as an adult have the option to post something on a public message board regarding a topic that interest me if I want to.
Just because I don't have a child does that mean I am not informed? Not all doctors are going to tell women they can decline something,a nd not all women realize they can decline everything.
If it upsets you then why read it and respond in the first place? Seems like a big waste of time on your part!

LOL
listen, i don't care about you or your opinions either way but i do care when people spout not so correct information on a public message board.
just because you have the right to post whatever you want doesn't mean anybody, including myself, can't disagree.
i don't know where you get your information from but *i* rather be informed.

as for the next nestie, who knows.
don't get your panties in a bunch, k?
and again LOL
WAIT. What incorrect information did I spout? Because I did not say anything that was not factual. Maybe you should re-read my posts.
You obviously do care, otherwise you wouldn't be trying to argue with me!
Listen, I don't care if you get them. I really truly don't. It's your decision. My post was for people who DID NOT realize they were NOT MANDATORY. If you want them then go for it! I didn't tell anyone not to freaking get them!

wow, you might want to step away from the keyboard.
I plan to decline any offered unless I am getting to overdue territory, or it seems like something is going on down there. The info means nothing, as you can be at a stage for days, or go from nothing to full labor overnight. ?

see, look Fawn, you have someone who agree's with you! happy?
in reality, any post anybody makes isn't going to puppies and rainbows, people aren't going to agree.
which is why you shouldn't get worked up. like that--->

You are lecturing people about bacteria? You are pregnant and live with 4 cats "GASP"

why would you want to decline them?? it's how the doctor knows (and how you know) what is going on - if the baby is in position, if you are dialated..you have to go there anyway - and it takes literally 5 seconds...I don't see what the big deal is IMO

My Dr. said the same thing - an internal doesn't really predict when you will have the baby. He has seen women be 4cm for 4 weeks and he has seen women be closed and have the baby that night... He said that if it was up to him, he wouldn't do an internal until labor started.
Re: PSA Re: Internal exams
penis vs sterile gloves?
i vote to have sex and get internals.... i like to know whats going on...

ok, how 'bout this?
YOU'RE RIGHT. I'm wrong.
Please do post any other PSA's that you think might be helpful to someone on the internets.
now, NOW will you shuddup about it?
((odds are probably not))
my god you are a piece of work!
yes, me and all the other people in this post who are choosing to have internals done.
wow, you might want to step away from the keyboard.
you seem a bit, "wound up".
