Moms of boys-did insurance cover circumcision?

We just recd a bill for $800 for my son's circ--apparently it is not at all covered by insurance. ?I didn't even think of asking in the hospital (not that it would have affected our decision). ?

we have to pay a portion. some insurance considers it a cosmetic surgery so they wont cover it.

Most insurance companies consider it cosmetic. So they will not cover it. Ours would not have if we had decided to circumcise. Our Pedi offered to do it for free (she is also my MIL) but we decided against it.

80% of our was covered, but it it wasn't it would have cost 400. 800 seems like a lot.

In the vast majority of cases, it's a procedure that's not medically necessary. I'd be more surprised if it was covered than if it wasn't.

Ours was not covered. It used to be, but not anymore. This is because over the past few years the AMA has considered it a cosmetic procedure. However, recent medical studies have indicated that there are health benefits to circumcision, so I'm guessing it will be covered again in the near future.

Yup, 100%. But, each family member has his/her OWN $1000 deductible, so even though I met my deductible DS's circ fell within his deductible, so we ended up having to pay the whole amount anyway

We haven't gotten a bill, but we checked with our insurance before and they said it was covered.

I asked my ins company, and they said it's covered. Since we'll have a family plan, I'm SURE our out of pocket max will be reached with my hospital stay.
