Maternity photos...

Hello.  I was recommended to a photographer needing models for her 2009 portfolio by my OB.  She e-mailed me today and asked if I could come in on Friday and do a portrait session.  I have some questions but when I called, they office was closed for the day.

Has anyone ever "modeled" for a maternity photographer?  Do you get copies of the pictures to keep?  Is there any charge to you if you agree to do the shoot?  I am very nervous to pose in front of the camera for someone...I have never done that before!  Is it uncomfortable?

Re: Maternity photos...

  • I had the opportunity to do a bridal portrait shoot with a wedding photographer looking to expand his portfolio. In that situation, there was no charge for the sitting fee and he included two prints for free. If this photographer is also looking to build their portfolio (which it sounds like), then I think it would be a similar arrangement. Essentially, the modeling is for their benefit, so you shouldn't have to pay, and the prints were a "thank you" for my time. It's a great opportunity to get professional portraits for free. You should definitely clarify with them beforehand, though.

A good photographer will make you feel comfortable. Don't be nervous - just have fun!
