Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Now I know why people do home births(Vent)

We got a bill in the mail the other day from the hospital. ?It was a bill from when DD was born a year ago. ?I called up the billing dept and said "what is this? ?We paid everything last year." ?The lady told me that you paid your daughters portion and not your own. ?I told her that last year, we talked to someone in billing and were put on a payment plan for what we thought was for everything. ?When we made our last payment (which was probably in July) we were so excited. ?Now I have this bill for $2,600.00. ?WTF! ?So now I have to go back through all the bills and EOB's plus request copies of our checks. ?And to top everything off, my wonderful husband who files everything said he couldn't find everything and might have shredded some stuff because it was paid. ?I am so stressed!!!!! ?My dd was in the hospital in early Jan. for RSV and we are still trying to pay those bills and now this. ?I just feel like crying.

  • This just happened to us, we recieved a bill from the birth last week.  Um hello this has been over a year and you are just getting around to it!  Its almost as if they look for extras to add on to charge you more money.

  • (((Hugs)))  Sorry your hospital's billing department sucks.  I hope you are able to get everything straightened out soon.
  • That really sucks. I'm sorry :(

I'm more than familiar with dealing with huge medical bills, so I know how it feels.

  • I am so thankful for good insurance. What a stressful time!
  • Definitely research this as much as you can. I just got a bill for my epidural last Friday and the bill was for like $3k. when I called insurance, they said that we didn't owe anything. It ended up being a mix up between the anesteologist and insurance. Yeah, right. Anyway, I've come across several weird bills regarding DD's birth that if I hadn't questioned, I would have ended up overpaying.
  • Yea I feel your pain. We were battling w/ the hospital and our insurance companies for about 8 months. Paid about 3Gs out of pocket for my anasthesia (almost as if it was an elective procedure or something). We were told that was everything. A month later got another bill for another thousand...apparently the stuff we paid was to the hospital and this was the doctor's bill. So yea I wouldn't be surprised if they come up w/ some more fees any day now.

  • I just got a bill for my 6-week US from June of '07. That was covered under my policy 100%. They can go shove it.

  • Make sure to check with your insurance (not just the hospital) to make sure this was submitted to them correctly and they have paid all they are going to pay.  If the hospital hasn't done anything with this bill for over a year (submitting to insurance or billing you) you may have a right to refuse to pay as most states require fees to be submitted in a timely manner.
