opinions on OB care/hospitals

I am moving from Manchester NH to Methuen MA next month. I am due in October and looking at my options to deliver. I have NH health insurance, and have very few choices on MA border. My options are Lawrence General, Holy family and Lahey Clinic.  Any thoughts on which is better? Or opinions. TIA.

Re: opinions on OB care/hospitals

  • I delivered my son at Lawrence General and had an awesome experience.  The nurses were beyond helpful (both L&D and Maternity), the rooms were clean, and Lactation was available when ever I needed them.  The only thing I didn't like was the on-staff pediatrician. Cameron was born on a Saturday afternoon and he had some issues.  The NICU staff was great but for some reason he saw the on-staff Pedi and not our on call Pedi.  I did not like the on-staff Pedi at all.  But we only had to deal with him once.  We saw our Pedi the next day and for the remainder of the stay.

I know a lot of people hear "Lawrence"  and are immediately turned off but my experience there was 1000x better than the hospital I delivered my daughter at (South Shore Hospital).  If we hadn't moved an hour away I would have delivered again at LGH in a heartbeat.

     Good luck with your decision!

  • I just moved from Manchester to Medford and went thorugh the same thing. The best thing to do is to go and request a tour of the places and see which one seems like the best one and where you think you will be most comfortable delivering at.  Good luck and congrats. I am due in November and can't wait!
  • I delivered at Holy Family and had a wonderful experience.  Loved the nurses, the on call pedi, and the rooms.  Good luck!
  • Hi.  I didn't deliver at Holy Family, but my three nieces and nephews were born there and a friend of mine just had her baby there.  I have heard nothing but good things from all of them.  I also visited there when the above children were born, and I though the staff was really nice and the rooms are huge.
  • I have also heard good things about Holy Family. I am in NH but may go there as my insurance is in MA.

  • I delivered at Lawrence General Hospital and I had a great experience.  The L&D nurses were awesome (I was in labor for 36 hours and each of the 3 nurses was excellent), the rooms were nice and the staff was very courteous.  I think their facilities and services were top-notch.  At first, I was a bit skeptical about delivering at Lawrence General Hospital, but I've heard nothing but positive things about their maternity ward and I took a tour and I was very impressed.  Their classes on childbirth and breastfeeding are very good as well.
