Re: Enlarged thyroid

  • I've had hypothyroidism my whole life. I am not sure about an "enlarged" thyroid, but you are either hyper or hypo. Probably hypo (or on the verge of it).

Either way, there is a blood test called a tsh and a tsh4. They can check this within a few days after its drawn. They will take one or two vials. Its important to have your thyroid at the appropriate level for yourself and for your baby.

If you have hypothryoidism, you are more likely tired, and can have symptoms of depression. however, this can also be associated with pregnancy. Soy is not good to mix with thyroid medication as it blocks the absorption of syntheroid (hypothyroid medication). good luck. Feel free to message me if you need more info on Hypo thyroid. Mine doesn't work at all, so I'm severly hypothyroid. And, I'm fine! Its crazy! good luck!

  • I had the same thing happen only the "enlarged thyroid" turned out to be three goiters and hyperthroidism. I had two removed and am now taking medicine every day. If it's enlarged, you might have hyperthyroidism which means your thyroid is producing too much of the thyroid hormone. Did your dr do bloodwork? Once you get that back you will know for sure what's wrong. Sometimes your thyroid can just flare up and go back down in a couple of days. It's a disease that many people live with. I hope everything turns out ok!

  • It's common if you have an underactive thyroid. I have to take a pill everyday to manage my levels. Although, it did swell up once again once i found out i was pregnant...it will go away within a week. But make sure to have them check you b/c untreated hypothyroidism can lead to low IQ in children.
  • About 5 months ago I was told that my thyroid is enlarged.  After a blood test my T3 and T4 levels came back normal.  My doctor repeated the blood test a few months after the initial diagnosis and they came back normal again.  She told me that it is possible to have an enlarged thyroid and it mean nothing.

That is fine and dandy but I just found out last week that my mom was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, a thyroid disease.  Anyway, because of this I am going to request that my doctor give me a referral to an endocronologist so I can get their opinion.

  • My doctor found that I had an enlarged thyroid at a routine visit. He sent me to an ENT dr. who recommended I get a biopsy. I had that done and it came back as a benign nodule. They are actually fairly common and 95% of them are non-cancerous. My thyroid levels are normal. I just have to go back every 6 months to a year to make sure it hasn't grown.
  • Thanks all.  I made an appt. with my primary care doctor.
