How old for high chairs?

I know we don't "need" them for feeding purposes for a few more months, but at what age can they start sitting in them?  We have two FP rainforest chairs in the closet and if they can "sit" in them now I might get them out so they can join us for dinner!  I feel less guilty eating when they're awake if I can interact with them while I'm eating.

Re: How old for high chairs?

  • We have been using Bumbo seats, but from a post I posted earlier today it seems alot of MoMs are starting with high chairs at around 4-5 months..the ones that have enough high back support.

If you already have the highchairs I would definitely plop them in there and see what happens...they might love it and it gets them used to sitting at a table with you.

  • We are bad and we don't sit at the table for dinner. It is hard though since DH works evenings and usually comes home for a quick 20 minute break to have a fast bite. Every time I walk past our high chairs still in the box I think about taking them out. Ours recline back, so right now it would be easier for the girls to sit in them. When we do sit at the table we usually just put the girls in their bouncers and have them sit along side the table, but the high chairs might work better.?

  • The only meal we sit at the table with the babies for is lunch.  We eat dinner after they go to sleep.

But to answer your question... we started the high chairs when we started solids around 5 months.  We only use them for that.... not bottles.  We still use bouncy chairs for bottles.

  • We didn't think we would need them for a few more months but we pulled them out on Saturday to test them out that the babies love them.  We have the Graco Broadstreet ones so they have a ton of padding and recline pretty far back so I am comfortable putting the babies in them while I am in the kitchen.  It has also worked wonders for David's reflux.
  • We started around 5 months....Made feeding solids so much easier!!!
  • Our LO's have been using theirs since they were about 3 months.  They LOVE to sit there and watch us cook and clean.
  • our boys use them now...not for eating, just for playing with toys on the tray and watching me cook or clean in the kitchen. They recline (Graco Deco chairs), and they really seem to enjoy them!
