Since the beginning Sophie has done great breastfeeding. But the past week, every evening she's been so fussy at the breast that she can't latch on. She'll latch for about 10 seconds, but then come off. She'll cry and cry like she has gas, so I try to burp her and calm her but it doesn't really help. She just won't eat so the one feeding stretches on for a loooonnnggg time. It really wears me out

Today, this has been how every feeding has gone. Do I have latch issues?

Re: what do you mean by "latch issues"?
Maybe she's not hungry? DD did this a few times & I felt so frustrated but then when I just stopped trying & laid her down she went to sleep. It only happened like 3 times but it was awful.
Check out kellymom.com also.
I had the same issue around 4-6 weeks and I've heard several other people experience this. For me I thought it was maybe gas. It's like out of nowhere she would all of a sudden be super fussy, usually in the evening, and not be able to nurse.
FWIW, it will probably pass in a week or two. They change so fast. I don't think it's a latch issue--she knows how to latch. There's just something else that's bugging her and it's distracting her from getting settled in at the breast.
I'm trying to recall what I did to help my DD during this time...I think I rubbed her belly and talked softly in her ear or something to sooth her/distract her so that she'd be able to get on and get going.
