Are Stride Rite shoes sized differently?

I found a pair of Stride Rite sandals on ebay for DS and decided to print out their sizing guide to make sure I had the correct size.  According to their website, with the measurements I took, he's a 6W.  I thought that seemed odd and tried on a size 5 Converse I have for him and it was way too big.  Do I just need to remeasure or do they have weird special sizing?

Re: Are Stride Rite shoes sized differently?

  • I'd remeasure. Adam has pretty big feet and he's a 4.5XW (velcro) or a 5XW (laces) in StrideRites.

Or you could get him measured at a shoe store. You could say you "just want to make sure he's still in the same size" so you don't feel like you have to buy anything. Just pretend you already bought him shoes there.

  • Ditto going into a shoe store to get measured. We just went into a stride rite to get DS remeasured since they told us to come back 3 months later. He actually doesn't need to go up a size just yet so they said to come back in a few more weeks.

    Did you measure him standing?

  • I did measure him standing, but he was not into standing still at that moment, so that's probably the problem.  Thanks!
  • I'd also suggest having him measured in a store. I haven't tried the Stride Rite online sizing, but I tend to trust the store sizing.

I think Converse shoes run big. DD had a pair in size 2 that fit her when she was wearing size 3 in other brands.
