Hello! I sometimes read/lurk/very rarely post on the local Nest board and various Bump boards since becoming pregnant. I'm glad to see more posting on this board and to add to it. This is my 1st baby. I live in St. Paul with my husband and 2 cats. We are planning to deliver at Regions Hospital which is a convenient 5 min from our house.
Anyone have experience with Regions' birthing center or know someone who gave birth there? We have taken the tour and such but I'm looking for "inside" information. I'm just curious to hear how other's experiences went at Regions My experiences with my Health Partners OB/prenatal clinic as well as the birthing class at Regions are leaving me with a sour taste so far, so I'm looking for positive things to focus on since I feel it's a little late in my pregnancy to switch clinics and hospitals.
And now I think I'll try to go back to sleep!

Re: Regions Hospital Birthing Center?
Thanks for your thoughts ladies. Mplsbride, the reasons I am feeling unsure about my clinic and Regions are complicated. Some of it is less important stuff like having to wait 1/2 hour or longer in the waiting room every time I have an appointment, not feeling like they are treating me as an individual, feeling rushed by my doctor. Some of it seems more serious to me. I have gestational diabetes and was not tested for it or diagnosed until 29 weeks even though I brought it up w/my doctor much earlier in my pregnancy b/c of a couple risk factors I have for it (started out overweight and w/a strong family history of diabetes). I feel I should have been tested/counseled sooner on what to do. Another major thing I JUST realized is that apparently I am RH factor negative if I am reading my test results right. This has NEVER been discussed with me and if what I am reading on webMD, etc. is correct, I should have been given Rhogam 6 weeks ago. I feel like my providers are not doing their jobs. I'm scared I'll be rushed and important things will be overlooked when I go into labor too.
Maybe this is just a problem with the entire health care system, or maybe I'm just being too nitpicky. At any rate, it's good to hear people have positive opinions at least about the nurses who will be there once I'm in the hospital.
I had a very great experience with Regions. We wanted (and had) a natural childbirth. Not that you have to go that way, but we had a great experience. (of course if you want meds, they will do that too). Our L&D nurse was great. The nurse midwife we had was excellent, and all the nurses were so helpful - really took their time to educate us. Everyone was very respectful of our birth plan, and explained things really well.
We also didn't like the prenatal classes (we signed up for three, and ended up skipping the second two classes). Luckily, for the actual prenatal class we did a privately-held one (Bradley). Bummer.
Consider switching to another clinic but still with HP so they have all your information on their on-line system. I had a good experience with HP Health Center for Women in St. Paul (University and 280). They have some great OBs and some great midwives. It could be worth a call to see if they will switch you. Or, call the clinic's manager and explain your concerns. They might be able to help you out. Good luck!
