Multiples

When did you find out you were having multiples?

So I know the chances are low, but b/c of a short LP my OB put me on Clomid this month.  Of course I'd prefer to have just 1 healthy baby at a time, but have stopped freaking out so much at the thought of multiples.  When I was pg with DS (so far our only) we could see him and his HB at 6w 1d.  A friend of mine had an u/s around 4w 3d or about and couldn't see anything (they said it was too early).  So this got very long and winded, but when did you find out?  TIA.

  • My MIL works at a Ob/Gyn office so she said we could come in to have a quick ultrasound to see the baby for fun...I was about 7 weeks along...to our surprise there was what looked like 2 babies...My appointment with my OB wasn't until I was about 10 weeks along...So for that 3 weeks I was still kind of in denial...But at 10 weeks it was very obvious that we were having twins.

  • I was on clomid too.  We had our first u/s at 6w2d and only saw one baby.  In my 11th week we went back and there were two.

  • 7 weeks is when we saw 2 babies
  • 7w4d for us.  Still in shock :)
  • 4w is too early to do an US.  5w is the earliest my RE will do one- and that is when you should be able to see a sac and sometimes a yolk sac and fetal pole.

For me- at our 5w US we saw 2 sacs.... at 6w we saw the fetal poles and heartbeats.

  • 17+ weeks but there was no need for an u/s prior to that.
  • 6w also, but I wouldn't have found out until 9w if I hadn't been in the emergency room.

  • At 6 wk u/s we knew we were pregnant for sure with one and even saw the heartbeat. At that same u/s, the doc saw another sac but was not sure that it would make it....sure enough at a 7 wk u/s I was told that YES, you are having twins!!!!  Very exciting news!!!!!  Good luck!

  • At our six week ultrasound! Two beautiful beating heartbeats!
  • I have trouble sustaining pg due to a progesterone drop, so when I got a BFP from POAS I called the OB right away.  They ordered my bloodwork and from that, assumed that I was about 6-7 weeks pg; my first u/s was scheduled for a week and a half later, to be around 8 weeks, and I was put on Prometrium right away.  (None of the math made sense to me b/c I knew when they were conceived, on vacation, but they were the docs so I did what they said.)  At that first u/s the tech made the comment that we were very early along, 5 - 5 1/2 weeks (which sounded more reasonable to me, math wise) and said something about twins b/c there was 2 sacs.  It wasn't 'till we saw the doc to discuss the u/s results that we were told it was triplets.  They were all there but not all the HBs were strong.  At 8 weeks I went back for another u/s and all three of them were there and growing and had strong HBs.
  • I found out at 10 weeks.  It was my regular ob appointment & we heard 1 heartbeat by my uterus was measuring big.  So I had an ultrasound to rule out a fibroid & to do an accurate dating.  Well, it turned out that my uterus was measuring big because there are 2 babies in there!  What  shock that was.
