My DS turns 6 months old this month (hooray!), and I would love to have professional photos taken. I get mailings for Sears, JC Penney, Kiddie Kandids, Portrait Innovations, etc. and haven't heard too many good or bad things about any of these places. My only concern is that I am a huge sucker, and know that the "$9.95" special will surely be much more when we leave than we really want to be spending if tempted.
We live in the Novi/Farmington Hills/Walled Lake area, but would travel up to an hour for a great photographer. Does anyone have recommendations for a quality, non-cheesy place to get some great shots? We prefer contemporary shots over traditional posed, and are looking to spend less than $150-200 total for a package of mostly big pics (8x10, 5x7, 3.5x5, with minimal wallets). A studio or meet us in-home are both options.
TIA! Heather
Re: Recs for quality, affordable photo studios?
I know someone who is a professional photographer and lives in your area. She did my wedding pics and did an amazing job. I am not sure what she charges but I can give you her website and you can check out her work and contact her for more info. I hope this helps you out!

Our wedding photographer was great and I know she does babies and families. She does everything digital and you own the images, which was great for us! She works out of troy but will travel to you or wherever you need. I loved working with her and I will be using her for baby pics on day!

I've taken DS to Portrait Innovations a few times now and I love it! I highly recommend it. The $9.95 is no strings attach, just remember it's only 1 pose, so if you want different poses, then you'll have to buy more. They really customize so you get only what you need. I'm not sure what the individual sheets cost because I usually get one of the packages (I want to say it's like $6.95). The prices are pretty inexpensive though and it's nice because they print them all in about 15 minutes. For DS's 6 month pictures I needed a bunch of pictures. The packages are set-up that you pick the number of poses you want, then you get 3 sheets of each post. 1 sheet is either an 8x10, 2-5x7, 4-3x5 or 8 wallets. This last time I went with a 7 pose package, so I got 21 sheets, plus it included a dvd of all the pictures taken and 2 "collection" sheets, which is just a 10x13 with a few pictures put together. I spent $130 total and that's with the $9.95 special included, which I got in a different pose. So I didn't think that was bad considering I got an insane amount of pictures.
We had DD's one-year pics taken at Portrait Innovations on Haggerty and they were great. I think we paid around $100 and had a ton of pics in many different poses.
I have used JC Penney for Christmas and 6 months pictures and they are good. I just wanted a little more time (I think the session was close to an hour) and variety for her one-year pics.
