Breastfeeding

Stupid newb question I'm sure but...

I will be attempting to BF when LO arrives in a few weeks. I have a pump that I am borrowing (bought all new tubing, etc.). I know I have no milk and will not for a while after he arrives, but is there any point to pumping to express colostrum as I get closer to my due date? Does this sort of thing bring your milk in sooner? These may be completely ridiculous questions, but I thought I would give it a shot. TIA

  • You don't really want or need to bring your milk in sooner... colostrum is super, super good for babies, really!

  • Ditto pp.  Colostrum is the best thing for a newborn baby- it's all your LO will need.  The best thing for your supply is to get your LO on the boob all.the.time at first.
  • Pumping can also cause contractions that can be strong and possibly harmful to the baby, or so they told us at our BFing class.
  • Yeah...just wait until your LO arrives, then you can start thinking about the pump.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Thanks ladies! No premature pumping for me. Smile
