Anyone have a fetal growth ultrasound?

Up until my last two appointments, I was measuring exactly on target. The last two visits my OB said I'm measuring 2 weeks behind and I have another ultrasound scheduled for this coming Friday. Just wondering, for those that have been through the same thing, what exactly are they measuring and looking for? Should I be nervous that I'm measuring 2 weeks behind? She said not to worry, that it probably just means my baby will be on the smaller side, but I'm still freaking out a little. Just wanted to check in with you ladies. TIA.

Re: Anyone have a fetal growth ultrasound?

  • The exact same thing happened to me...I was measuring right on schedule until my appointment 3 weeks ago, when I measured 2 weeks behind.  The doc scheduled me for a growth u/s at my next appointment (which was this past Thursday) - and DS is measuring exactly where he should be (he's in the 51st percentile).  My fundus is still measuring small, but the baby is fine.  Some people just carry differently than others, I'm sure everything is fine!

  • Thanks for reassuring me. Glad to hear your little one is doing fine! :)
  • I am having an u/s Wed. because I am measuring big.  My original date that they gave me was May 22nd but they changed it to May 30th at my 8 week appt.  Maybe they were right the first time.

    GL at yours!

  • I had one I think. The u/s tech measured the baby and told me her estimated weight and different parts of her body were either ahead or right on time. The u/s tech said that they are not really accurate though because the way the baby lays. I've heard of it saying the baby was behind and then the next time the baby was perfect. Same with measuring ahead once and then perfect. I was worried about my baby measuring ahead and the u/s tech told me that about it may not being completely accurate and she also said all babies are different and some hit growth spurts sooner or later than other ones do. Try not to worry to much about it! I know that is easier said than done though.
  • We also had the same thing happen and now have weekly biophysical profiles (BPP) and growth assessments every three weeks. They will measure different parts on the baby (humerus, femur, head, belly, etc) and compare these with "average" numbers- ours are pretty much all on target except for the baby's belly, which is in a lower percentile. They also said to us that they just expect a small baby (I'm only 5' so that's fine by me!) The BPP's have tested the fetal well being and ours has gotten an "A" every time, which is reassuring. You seem to be pretty petite (based on your photo) so I'm guessing you will also just be having a smaller baby! Good luck!
  • Thanks for your responses. I feel a lot better now. I'm sure everything's fine, but it's nice to hear other ppl's experiences too. Thanks :)
  • :( They wont give me one. I have been begging!
