DS refusing to drink his milk..

We transitioned my DS over to whole milk exactly 3 weeks ago and he's been doing fine - it was seamless.  He normally drinks four 6 oz bottles a day.  Ever since Thursday for some reason - he'll only drink maaaybe 2 of the 4 bottles.  Last night he didn't drink his bottle before bed OR his morning bottle this morning.  But he slept through the night just fine and isn't fussing or anything this morning.  He's about to eat breakfast now but I'm just wondering if anyone else's DC just suddenly decrease their milk intake?  He's not sick or anything so I'm baffled.  AND he's still on mainly purees but that's a whole different story.  I'm going to call my pediatrician tomorrow but I thought I'd post here and see if this is common.  TIA!

Re: DS refusing to drink his milk..

  • I'm lucky if I can get 2 full 6 oz. sippys down DD a day.  She transitioned good to the milk from formula, but doesn't drink as much.  I make sure that she has a sippy of water or watered down juice available to her all day long and when we go out so that she doesn't get dehydrated.  She's eating more at meal times, so I'm not too worried right now.

  • Not to make you paranoid, but are you sure he's not sick? DS lost his appetite earlier this week and it turned out to be an ear infection - gar. Hope it's not true in your son's case, but just throwing it out there!

  • DS has decided to jump on the anti milk wagon today, not sure why.  I am more than willing to nurse him at night and first thing in the morning but right now I am trying to to keep him on his sippy of milk during the day.  He is currently crying his eyes out because of the rejection.  I love my son but it is not necessary for him to nurse all day.
  • I'm not much help because I'm trying to cut out one nursing with whole milk now and not going so well...

BUT our pedi said that milk wasn't really necessary as long as they are eating cheese, yogurt, etc to get the calcium.

  • I didn't have that problem with milk but i wanted to give you some hope with the purees.  My DS was eating some table food around 10 months and then just revolted and was eating only purees from 12-14 months.  Now at 16 1/2 months he is eating just fine, about a month ago he just starting eating again out of nowhere.  Some days he doesn't  eat much but I know at your point I was so worried he would never progress past purees.
