3rd Trimester

If you are getting induced early (or if you were)...

I'm just curious what some of the reasons are for ladies getting induced earlier than 40 weeks? I feel like I've seen several women getting induced at 37/38 weeks on here lately.

I know in some case there is a serious medical need to get that baby out, but I'd like to hear it from the sources :)

Re: If you are getting induced early (or if you were)...

  • Right now we're scheduled for a c/s at 37 weeks because of placenta previa but if that clears up we will likely induce around 37 weeks because my last pregnancy ended (at 23 weeks) in placental abruption and stillbirth of one of my twins and the risks of both increase after 37 weeks, so for my own peace of mind and due to my history we will likely induce. That is all assuming I make it to 37 weeks which is a big if as well.

  • Well, like in my case it isn't safe to go to 40 weeks with twins. My doctor will let labor progress if it starts at 36 weeks. But they won't do a c-section or induce until 37 weeks and even then they have to do an?amniocentesis to make sure their lungs are developed properly.

  • I was induced at 40 weeks due to high blood pressure

  • I am being induced at 38w6d. I was originally set to be induced on my due date...my doctor normally waits until after that but she said since I've been 3cm and 75% effaced since 34 weeks, she would let me be induced on my due date. Last week I had some issues with high blood pressure, extreme swelling, and sudden weight gain (11 pounds). I went into the hospital for tests...they ruled out preeclampsia and said it is PIH. So I am back on bedrest (was also on bedrest from 34-37 weeks due to preterm labor). So she moved up my induction to the 14th. Which is fine with me. After what has gone on over the last 4 1/2 weeks, I am ready to be done.
  • I was induced at 39w for low fluid/GD
  • I was induced at 39 weeks because of Cholestasis of Pregnancy.  If they would have caught it sooner, I probably would have been induced more like 37 weeks.  Mine ended up in c/s (with complications afterward), so I wouldn't get induced unless it was medically necessary.  But with Cholestasis there is a high risk of stillbirth, so I went with the induction.
  • The people I have known IRL who were induced early was because of HBP/Pre-e, GD, and large babies.  A friend of mine was induced at 39 weeks and had a 10 and a half pound baby.

  • I will be induced early because I am a diabetic. They worry about placental degeneration in the last few weeks. We have not set a date yet, but we will once I hit 32 weeks. Most likley.
  • I am not, but a friend is getting induced early because she has kidney stones, very painful and makes pregnancy very difficult.

  • They originally talked about inducing me at 37 weeks because baby was small.  If she dropped below the 10th percentile they would have wanted to induce.  They ended up inducing at 37 weeks because her heartrate was dropping with the contractions I was having  during my NST.

  • I was induced at 39 weeks and 1 day. A week before we went in for a growth u/s and my DS was measuring close to 8lbs. His shoulders were measuring larger then his head which means that once his head came out the chance of his shoulders getting stuck was very high. If this would have happened during delivery it could in some cases end in the childs death if they can not get them out.

So we went in to be induced which went really really well and when he came out he was 9lbs. His shoulders did get stuck but the staff and OB/GYN acted fast and everything was fine. He came out healthy and not so happy, but much more happy once they wrapped him up, lol. ?

It's untrue that it is unsafe to go 40 weeks with twins. Unless you mean like in your case because you have a completely different case than you are just having twins.

Do you have twins? Are you having twins? I am going to trust my OB and my high risk OB to have me deliver when appropriate. Having twins is considered "high risk" no matter what. So it isn't "just having twins". And yes, I have been on bed rest most of my pregnancy due to complications from "just having twins".

Here is a few of the issues just an FYI:

All twin gestation are considered full term at 38 weeks by most obstetricians and it is not unusual for mothers to be induced at this time. Risks of going to term with twins are: the potential for cord prolapse, intrauterine fetal death of one baby and twin to twin transfusion. Mothers too may be at higher risk of placental abruption, hemorrhage and hypertension.?

Here is a link from the Mulit. board did any go to 40??

    :)??

  • If my cervix is favorable I will probably be getting induced before 40 weeks as I have Leiden Factor V (blood clotting condition) and I'm on 10,000 units of Heparin twice a day.

If during next week's ultrasound baby is still growing on schedule there is a slight possibility that my OB will let me go past my due date.  So not the news I wanted to hear.  I want to be done.

  • Scheduled for 39 weeks due to the blood thinners I have to take during pregnancy (clotting condition). They do not want me to go into labor on my own so that they can control my meds to avoid bleeding problems. Also, I can't have an epi if I have taken an injection too recently. I have to wait 12 hours or something like that.
  • As of right now they are planning on inducing at 39 weeks due to GD.  So far baby is measuring on the large side.
