Because my mom is bipolar with an obsession with buying and giving me things. She also has TERRIBLE taste, and I've gotten in more than one war in my lifetime about her mailing me crap that fills up my house (she'd go to the post office every single day to mail me something), bringing me bags of "stuff" when she visits and just bombarding me with things I don't need. I know I'm going to have to have a serious talk with her right away when we tell her I'm KU, because if not I'll have to move into a 4000sqft house to accomodate all the stuff she'll buy.
A registry is vital, it's the only thing that will keep her on track. If she's going to spend tons of money on things, it might as well be on things I want instead of some of the ridiculousness she would buy.
I know that sounds mean, but dealing with someone who has an obsessive shopping disorder can get out of control real fast. Anyone else going to have that problem on any level?
Re: If I had 10 kids I'd still have a registry
Maybe her mom really is bipolar??
Hey Congrats! I recognize the pups in your siggy. I don't have that exact problem really, but I do know a little about the space issue. My mom has already bought way more for the baby than us. That is actually keeping me in check not to buy much. But she has also saved tons of outfits from me and my sister growing up. As soon as we found out it is a girl she got all excited and said she was going to go thru the bins in the basement of dresses and sweaters and random other girly stuff. My dad is happy he is getting rid of it, but my DH immediately groaned since he has seen their basement. We are talking about 10 rubbermaid bins of clothing!
