1st Trimester

Left-side Cramps

This is my first pregnancy, and I am only at 5 weeks, but I have been having dull uncomfortable cramps I guess on my left side, they are not really painful, just kind of there.  I am probably just being overly cautious, but is this normal?  I am not a person who normally gets cramps...I have not had any spotting or anything.

 Thanks!

Re: Left-side Cramps

  • I'm not sure. some cramps are very normal!! But some indicate an ecotopic pregnancy! If severe I'd contact my doctor, just to be on the safe side.

  • I O'd on my right my BFP cycle (I was being monitored, this is how I know this) and I had a lot of cramping on my left side when I was 4/5 weeks (I wasn't worried about that being ectopic pain b/c I'd already lost my left tube due to an ectopic). At my 6w u/s, we found that the baby had implanted on my left side. I think my cramping was just my baby settling in for the long haul. Like pp said, as long as the cramping isn't severe, it's normal.
  • I had the SAME thing last week for a few day... but they have went away since them and I'm feeling great now!?

  • I agree with everyone else. It's probably normal since you are already growing and stretching, but if they become severe I would def. call your DR.
  • I had a bunch of cramping as well, still do from time to time. My doc told me that as long as they are not severe I shouldn't worry. It's only your uterus stretching and making room for the baby to grow
  • I had cramping too.  My doctor said that it was normal.  Try not to worry. (I know that is hard- I still worry)
  • Cramping was stronger on my left side too, and it turns out that was the side I had ovulated from, and I'd released 2 eggs so the ovary was just reacting to all that activity. It can also be where the baby is implanting itself in your uterus. As long as there is no significant bleeding, and it just feels like light to moderate period cramps, it's generally ok.

  • I had the same thing happen to me and I freaked out from reading too much interent information on ectopic pregancy and called the Kaiser on call nurse. She described some type of muscle pulling from ligiments that could even go into your groin. Sort of like straining a muscle. But since I was such a nervous Nelly she sent me to the doc (way before I was to have my first prenatal) and I had a vagnal ultrasound. All we could see was a smoosky loking pea but at least it was in the right place (not my tubes). I am still getting those same feelinds now ...

Good luck and take it easy.

  • I had tons of cramping this past week, in fact, they woke me up at night.  I was so nervous and called the nurse.  She said as long as I wasn't spotting then it should be fine.  They seem to have disappered, so that is good!
